I am working Christmas eve and Christmas day this year , anyone else ? Should hopefully be home to have a few hours with the children on Christmas eve and given they get up beyond silly o'clock Christmas day will see them open their proper presents in the morning before heading off for work , so all in all not so badly done to grin

I am putting a nice comfy cushion on your bit of the bench sugar and will be free and easy with the nibbles and drinks sad

Budge up on the bench! 12 hour shift Christmas day here. Fair chance I won't see my DS at all, luckily he's too young to 'get' it all this year.

frumpet Sun 08-Nov-15 18:43:41

shuffles over and passes down nibbles to Cheradenine

Cheers! wine

We're having nice food and presents on xmas eve, just me, DH and DS, and then DH is working boxing day but I'm doing a dinner for the rest of the family. It's going to be busy!

Perfectlypurple Sun 08-Nov-15 18:54:52

I am a day shift and dh a late shift. So when I get up at 5am he will still be asleep and when he gets home at gone midnight I will be asleep as early start again next day.

I cant wait. Triple time and it should be pretty quiet! Ill be working 9pm-3am on Xmas day, Boxing day and New Years Day.
I imagine ill be feeling a lot more more grim about it if I had children, hence why I volunteered to work it.

I swear its nothing to do with the extra money because ive got my eyes on a new handbag

2plus1plusL1 Sun 08-Nov-15 19:14:45

Goodness - what do you all do? It can be easy to forget those who have to work

antimatter Sun 08-Nov-15 19:18:35

I am so happy I don't work Christma or weekends any more!
I rolled off that bench without any regrets even though I lost some income.

CheradenineZakalwe Sun 08-Nov-15 19:25:11

Mental health nurse here. Christmas day is usually fairly chilled, although there's always a chance of things kicking off (specialist service, high risk of violence).

Our plan is to do a proper dinner so everyone is too stuffed to fight and just falls asleep.

frumpet Sun 08-Nov-15 19:25:26

I am a nurse , any other takers ?

frumpet Sun 08-Nov-15 19:26:05

Itsthe show me the handbag !!!!!

cowssheephens Sun 08-Nov-15 19:27:35

flowers to you all that work on Christmas Day! It really isn't fair when you have DCs.

GeraldineFangedVagine Sun 08-Nov-15 19:28:07

I'm a nurse too and dont know yet. If I have to it will be a shame, but it is sort of my turn so I won't moan. I am going to offer to do New year nights pre emptively for brownie points though ;)

CheradenineZakalwe Sun 08-Nov-15 19:30:41

See, I do think that just because I decided to breed doesn't mean I should get every xmas off grin Everyone has family's they want to be with (mostly). But yeah, that's when I'm feeling particularly rational; ask me again if it's fair christmas morning!

cowssheephens Sun 08-Nov-15 19:33:34

Ok, maybe I should have included 'young' DCs. blush

Pipestheghost Sun 08-Nov-15 19:34:25

DP is, mental health nurse.

Chapsie Sun 08-Nov-15 19:35:32

Sorry some of you have to work but thank you wineflowerscakestar

Pipestheghost Sun 08-Nov-15 19:35:43

We're going to let the dc's open their 'big' presents on Christmas eve instead smile

Ledkr Sun 08-Nov-15 19:36:17

I did it for years as a mental health nurse and then a residential childcare worker.
Thrilled at not having to do that anymore but then go and marry someone who has to!
So I'm on the bench by proxy!!
