My almost 8 year old DS would like a console for Christmas basically to play Skylanders and Minecraft. We are a non gaming family and completely clueless about what to get and don't have the money to spend that some of these things seem to cost. I have seen the Xbox 360 4gb for £135 on Argos and would like to know if this is worth getting and any other advice you can give. Thanks

I have 3 xbox loving DS's! If you can afford one with a bit more memory/storage it will be better long term. Also look on a website called console deals??? they generally have all the latest, best prices. HTH

We were given an xbox360 but we go to cex and get games, controllers and Memory for much cheaper than the high street shops

they have a website you check for stock in your area

Apparently the 4gb version is hardly worth buying as you'll use up the memory pretty quickly.

Agree the storage on the 4gb is rubbish. But my son has an internal hard drive that he attached to his. Like this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Sonnics-320GB-XBOX-Internal-Drive/dp/B00CTUUV4E/ref=sr_1_sc_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1446555077&sr=1-2-spell&keywords=inmternal%20hard%20drive%20xbox%20360&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Also if your DS wants to play with his friends, in the future, then you have to purchase xbox live which is about £6 a month or £40 a year.

You can get xbox live much cheaper on places like CD Keys. A 360 will be fine and you can add extra memory if needed. Loads of decent 2nd hand deals too. Games are cheap as chips 2nd hand but bear in mind that a lot of the newer games will only be issued in the next generation of consoles (xbox one and ps4) so in a few years time if he is still a gamer then you will probably have to move up if he wants any of the newer games.

he can also only play on-line with friends if they have the same console so it's worth finding out what they have if that is the plan.
