Just that really. I've googled but not sure I've found the right thing. Seems to be an electric skateboard type transport- is that right? They are really expensive and I suspect aimed more at teenagers - can anybody put me straight?

Yes those are what you're looking st. They're not legal on the roads or paths though, so he'd be refined to indoors using it. Expensive waste of money IMO.

Thanks guys - I don't even know where he's seen or heard of them - presumably via some YouTuber or other. Do they even work outdoors? You'd needs bloody big house then to use indoors!

Be careful who you buy from too - some of these were on Watchdog a coup,e of weeks ago - they don't have proper plugs on the chargers, and the plugs they have are NOT safe.

Amazon do have a variety of them, at a wide variety of prices here - but my gut reaction is that this isn't something I would want to buy on the cheap, and the expensive ones seem like a lot for a toy that he won't, as Lemony says, be able to,use on the street/pavement.

The little two wheeled balance boards are not original Segways - this Wikipedia entry is about the originals - [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segway_PT Segway]].

Ask him where he'd ride it, as he'd have to do so on private property so no taking it to the park or to his mates' houses to show it off unless he's also up for paying the fine if he's caught doing so.

I'd be asking for other gift suggestions from him. This is an "I want doesn't get" present to me.

Ds also wants one. He's seen various you tubers use them & someone had one at football training the other week (probably without the permission of the school whose grounds are used)

But I've told him no due to the ban on public roads etc.

How about a compromise? Buy him a Segway experience day.

Report
balletgirlmum · 01/11/2015 11:02

Because Segways are not cool but Swegways are.

That's a good idea, Partybugs.

How about a stunt scooter as an actual present

I've seen a few kids on them over the past few months, in parks and pavements. I don't think they would enforce the ban, would they?

Smyths and Toys r us sell them now but they are v. expensive.

I was looking at the ones on Amazon/Ebay for £200 but don't know which seller to buy from as I don't want to be ripped off Hmm

Apparently it needs to have a UK plug and a samsung battery Confused

There are some on 'Appliances Direct'. Anyone bought from these before?

I've ordered one from Skatehut. I've used them before and they have very good customer service. The Air Runner has Samsung parts. I didn't want to order one from China and have a massive headache returning it if something goes wrong. Also, some of the eBay ones look cheap, but have a £99 delivery.

Oh - you also get cash back through Quidco which was something like 6% IIRC.

Omg I really want one of these! They look so cool! Are you allowed to use them in parks? I wonder if it'd be possible to push dd in her buggy while on one...

welshHairs · 02/11/2015 22:12

Aww no taking it to the park. Where can you use the bloody things then?

Good have you received any notification from skatehut yet? or a delivery date. I have had problems with them in the past so wanting to check they have resolved issues before ordering from them again.
This is top of ds2 list as well.

They seem to be on 'preorder' at Skatehut now, with delivery 14th December!!!
I don't know if i'd be brave enough to order in case it all fell through at the last minute Confused

Says on Skate Hut that stock is due 7th Dec, and it's next day delivery. I've had the order confirmation emails
I'm happy to risk it I think.

I don't know what to do, think I will go with the appliance direct link and hope for the best. will check plugs etc before wrapping it. so much for my PS150 a child budget. Imposed as we have a house full of stuff and didn't want to add to it.

DD (12) tried one of these at Horse of the Year Show and loved it and wants one for Christmas. We are very rural and have enough tracks round home that we're not worried about the legal ramifications as we've not seen any police in our village in the 15 years we've lived here!

We'll obviously buy a quality one with Samsung battery and British plugs etc. However they talk about different sized wheels - does anybody have advice on this? Also the one we tried was being sold to us as an off-roader which appeals so DD can scoot around our fields but I'm not sure which brands (Swegway, Mono Rover etc) are really off roaders. Again any advice?

We don't plan to buy her the one with Bluetooth - don't think she'd justify the increased price and she needs to be concentrating on what she'd doing!

Fairiesarereal did you buy one of these from appliancesdirect.co.uk? I too have been looking at them but would like a recommendation from someone before buying for myDD.

No, I didn't. I bought one from a stall type shop near us it'll probably blow up on Christmas day. But I noticed they sell them in The Range now too.

I fail to see how anything would be enforced. It's a bit like... riding bikes on pavements, isn't it?
