I'm thinking about the kind of games that will be good Christmas fun for adults of a winter evening - our favourite is Articulate, but I'm looking for something good to get for my BIL. All suggestions welcome!

Cranium is really good. It has rounds that are like Articulate, rounds that are like charades and one like Pictionary

Werewolves!

It's kind of a card game, but involves taking on particular characters, in a generally Werewolves vs Villagers-type scenario. gOogle it, as it's hard to explain, but it's excellent for groups of adults/teenagers (I think it requires a minimum of 8 people). My brother-in-law, who is a card/board game nerd, got my whole extended family hooked on it on our summer holiday.

Or killer bunnies, if you can still get hold of it

Settlers of Catan, Carcasonne and Bohnanza are all excellent

Absolute Balderdash is ideal for big groups, very entertaining, and funny even if you're losing hopelessly.

Some fab suggestions here- I think I might buy him Absolute Balderdash, but am thinking of Catan for ourselves - and keeping other suggestions for the future!

Dixit is amazingly fun for any group (adults and/or kids) and infinitely replayable - highly recommended!

Checkers but instead of using the discs supplied, use chocolate coins Grin

Another vote for Dobble and ticket to ride. We have the Scandinavia version which works really well with two or three people if they're a smaller family.

Banagrams is good if they like word games.

Depends very much on your BIL but Cards against humanity is funny. But only if he has that sort of sense of humour otherwise he'll just be massively offended!

Does he like Terry Pratchett? The Discworld board games are actually really good.

If he likes D&D the Munchkin is fun.

Otherwise Ticket to Ride is great.

Cards against humanity is hilarious, but yes not for the easily offended.

We were asked to leave a campsite once, playing that rather loudly and drunkenly.

I think he'd like Cards Against Humanity - but my SIL not so much! Has anyone played Exploding Kittens?
