Having Christmas in our own home, just the two of us, for the first time smile

mrsfarquhar Tue 23-Dec-14 14:49:16

Much as i love the run up to Christmas, and am full of Christmas joy and all that, I am looking forward to it being over! No more presents to buy, just things to play with, no more suddenly remembering someone who hasn't got a card (loads and loads of those) and knowing there's bugger all chance of me finding time to fix that now. No more constant bloody tidying in an attempt to have a house worthy of Christmas. No more shopping for food everyday because we've been too busy to think about normal mealtimes until 5 minutes before they are due. I can stop fretting about the last 2 gifts which haven't arrived as it will be TOO LATE, i will have said my apologies and that's that.

I love Christmas but am glad when its done for another year and i can start looking forward to it again.

mrsfarquhar Tue 23-Dec-14 14:49:45

sorry that was a bit long, feeling very frazzled today!

When even the teens, in pyjamas, snuggle up with me on the sofa to watch Doctor Who.

chanie44 Tue 23-Dec-14 14:55:31

I'm most looking forward to ds reaction to the presents - he's 4 and this is the first year he really understands.

WUME Tue 23-Dec-14 14:55:34

Seeing dc open their presents.

Esp if I can get hold of a camera for dd1 tomorrow - that will be a big surprise for her and dh who hasn't heard about this particular twitch wink grin

Oh and dd1 and dd2s reaction when they wake up to find Father Christmas has out new Frozen duvet covers on their bed and taken the Christmas ones away.

Can you imagine being a 4yo and waking up to a Frozen duvet shock shock shock shock - she may explode grin grin grin grin

Letthemtalk Tue 23-Dec-14 14:57:34

When everyone goes home, kids are in bed and dp and I snuggle on the sofa.

That and dinner

CaisleanDraiochta Tue 23-Dec-14 14:58:47

It being over! [grinch] seriously though I much prefer christmas eve/boxing day when its just me and the DC on our own. i don't enjoy prolonged periods of socialising and hate gift giving between adults. I know I'm in the minority there though so I put on an act and get on with it. I'm always relieve when its over so i can finally relax and enjoy christmas.

I do like being woken up by excited DC in the morning as they climb into my bed with full stockings, as long as its not too early! Also I quite like the dinner. Couldn't eat much last year due to illness so looking forward to that too.

I don't enjoy Xmas day (with family) at all. I look forward to Boxing Day with my partner, and then volunteering at Crisis in the boring bit before NYE.

MindReader Tue 23-Dec-14 15:12:55

The Children opening their presents (esp if they've made it to a decent time of the morning before waking - ie after 6am)

Going to Church for the morning service (ditto the 6pm one the night before) <sentimental>

Carols from Kings.

Eating the meal <greedy>

Watching Downtown and CTM and Dr Who if I can manage all 3 <lazy>

annabanana19 Tue 23-Dec-14 15:13:00

WUME - do you know her?

No, you don't so you have no idea. None whatsoever.

You have a nice Christmas with people you like.

OhYouBadBadKitten Tue 23-Dec-14 15:13:29

Midnight Mass (well that ends on Christmas day)

knowing that I dont have to work - it will just be us with no expectations. That will be bliss.

Snuggling down with my family watching tv and playing games in front of the fire

Reading the new Stephen King book (if dh hasnt bought it for me then kindle delivers in just moments)

MindReader Tue 23-Dec-14 15:14:57

"The Children" = my kids, (sounded a bit formal there, I don't run a Children's home, honest!).

itsbetterthanabox Tue 23-Dec-14 15:18:27

Presents! And yummy food. And chilling out, not working and drinking hot chocolate. I hate Boxing Day though. It's so boring and depressing after Xmas.

itsbetterthanabox Tue 23-Dec-14 15:19:22

Xmas special doctor who!!!!
