Christmas is meant to be family time and therefore why should you spend practically the whole day in the kitchen?

I've brought pre-done veg, and put it in the freezer so all my cooking is literally opening the packets and putting it in the oven... My hardest job will be making the gravy stirring granules in hot water

I'm doing it for the first time this year, I have no idea if I'll like it or not but I think it's worth a go.

I always make my own veg. The brussels sprouts take bloody ages though, with all those little pieces of cabbage to cut out and stick together. Grin

It'll be fine - they're vegetables, they're not going to be overly processed - and even if they are, so what? It's only one day, it won't kill you.

M&S parsnips are divine. they very rarely make it to the plates though Blush

There is no rule that says you have to cook everything from scratch just because it is Christmas. Do what makes it easier for yourself, it's your day as well and there's no need to spend it peeling sprouts.

I've done it in the past. If you can afford it and it makes for a jollier Christmas then why not?

I use prepped veg 90% of the time

This eve I will pick up ready chopped butternut squash, and use spinach to throw on ready made puff pastry. I will add homemade pesto and chicken ( pre made and chopped in fridge). Then have pre cut runner beans and pre chopped broccoli on the side.

We get home around 7/7.30pm from work with children. They need to eat and ideally in bed around 9pm. The pre chopped/ prepared stuff means food can be healthy but mainly assembled rather than wasting time chopping and tidying up peel

I get someone else (a guest) to prep the veg and then they turn up with them ready to bake/ boil - whatever.

Mind you, Aunt Bessie does a mean roast potato
