What age for playmobil

DS is 3 in January.

I know they do the playmobil 123 but wondering if that would be too babyish and if he would be ok going straight for the main playmobil.

He loves playing with figures etc so I'm hoping to build up a collection in time (if he enjoys it!)

For a 3 year old would you go for playmobil regular or 123?

We have bought our DS (3 in March) some regular playmobil.
He has a playmobil advent calendar and although the pieces are small and a little fiddly, we haven't had any issues with it. HTH.

Dd is 3.5. She got some Playmobil 123 when she was 18m and still plays with it now. She has some more for Christmas this year, so I don't think it is too babyish. I'm also sure she would be fine with regular Playmobil now. My 1 year old twin ds's would however definitely NOT be ok with the regular stuff so we'll save that for later.

4-5 is when kids really begin to enjoy it. At three I'd start with an Advent calendar but I suppose it's a bit late for that this year. You can get one second hand on eBay for next year. That's what we did and 5 years on, the kids absolutely love the advent calendar!!

My 2.5yr old loves regular playmobil

Depends on the child.

DS1 played at 3¾ whereas DS2 has been playing with it since he was 2.

We got my ds his first Playmobil for his 3rd birthday. We started him off with the Recycling Truck (a passion of his!) and I would recommend that as an inteoduction if he likes that sort of thing at all as it is not too fiddly to put together and doesn't come with too many little bits but enough to make it enjoyable. He has got hours of play from it - in fact there is a big refuse collection going on at my feet as I write

We are upping the ante at Christmas with the Camper Van and camping stuff and I've got my eye on the fire engine for next birthday.

I have a one year old too and and she is fine with the recycling truck and figures, I just removed their hats and put away so he can play with it while she's around. I'm going to remove all the tiny bits from the Camper Van for general play but let him have them up at the table, same as I do with Lego.

Have got dd the Playmobil 123 Zoo for Christmas, and that's really for both of them to play with as there was a zoo filled gap in our toy collection. It is nicely detailed enough for ds to hold his interest but fine for the one year old as well.

My dd has played with it since 2.5. Some of the bits are quite small though. Depending on how good he is at not putting things in his mouth you could put some bits aside for now (I'm looking at you marble sized mini football).

I think going straight to the main Playmobil would be fine.

Some sets are fiddlier than others, but the vehicles in particular are really good for younger ones imo - not too many fiddly little pieces. The swimming pool is good too.

We have a jeep that pulls a trailer with a rhino in (though I think there is now a newer version with a giraffe instead), and also a horse box and a car, and they are great!

We have a boat for the bath too, and that gets played with every bath time without fail.

Are regular and 123 compatible? Are the figures etc to the same scale?

The Playmobil 123 people only bend at the waist ie. Legs move to enable them to sit in things. Normal Playmobil have moving arms, legs and heads.

But yes we have the Playmobil 123 zoo and it has integrated with the rest of the Playmobil.

Is he into Fireman Sam? The Playmobil Fire engine that has the extending ladder has had a huge amount of play in this house. DS has had it from around the age of 3. A lot of the fire engines, police cars and recycling trucks come with flashing lights which the kids love.

Agree the Advent Calendars are really good.

123 figures are a similar scale, but more rotund, with bigger heads. The children are taller than standard child figures. They look a bit overweight, but they fit in OK.

Some of the 123 animals are much bigger, they aren't all totally to scale - we have a 123 squirrel and owl and they are massive compared to normal playmobil, the squirrel is nearly the size of a child but dds don't seem to care. We also have 123 deer and wild boar and they are more similar in size to normal playmobil deer and boars.

123 vehicles are considerably smaller than standard playmobil vehicles (more room in the toybox though!), and usually only fit one man in.
