How many sweets am I supposed to put in? I had 800ml of vodka and put in 150g of sweets but it still smells very strongly of vodka (its smirnoff). Should I put more in?

I made some a couple of years ago and if I remember correctly I split a 1 litre bottle between two mason jars (I was making one batch of Werthers and one of rhubarb'n'custard), so the Werthers batch had 500ml of vodka and two tubes of sweets in, think that would have been 100g. So 150g sounds about right.

Don't remember how it smelt but it went cloudy and looked like Werthers if you see what I mean... Was going to filter it but it was a bit of a faff so just made sure I gave it a good shake before use Grin. Tasted great! So did the rhubarb'n'custard, especially neat out of the freezer, oh yes...

Shock is this a thing? Why didn't I know about this? What other sweets can you use? How long do you leave them in the vodka? Has anyone tried it with soor plums (round green sour boiled sweets only really available in Scotland)? Shock

I read that volume-wise, its about 1/4 bottle of sweets and 3/4 vodka. Well, that's what I did yesterday.

Made some rather successful stuff a couple of years back and remembered to make some for this year.

How long as it been 'cooking' for? Mine took about 2 weeks with daily shaking last time for all the sweets to dissolve

Is this the "seal bottle and put through a dishwasher cycle" method or am I imagining things?

catsofa there are a few threads on here and elsewhere. Just google dishwasher vodka. I'm not actually bothering with the dishwasher as I had plenty of time to let the sweets dissolve. Mine actually did within a day as I smashed them up first.

I have added more and now it smells lush! Got some mini bottles and xmas labels and am giving them to my friends with some homemade shortbread :)

Sounds amazing. I don't have a dishwasher, but since I'm pregnant I have until April to soak the stuff before I can drink it anyway, that should be enough time for it to all dissolve!
