Best family board games 2015?

Christmas is coming ... Which is a great opportunity for board games!

Was perusing our collection today: monopoly (x3!), scrabble, banana grams, rummikub, taboo, articulate and so on ....

Any great recommendations for some family fun? Kids are 11 and 8.

Thanks!

Carcassone is our family favourite.

If anyone is interested, this is fun for ages about 5 to 100 if you've got a decent garden. Though it's noisy! www.amazon.co.uk/ClubKing-Ltd-Kubb-Birch/dp/B005K89UQ2/ref=sr_1_12?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1417387165&sr=1-12&keywords=kubb+outdoor+game

We are going for Articulate for Kids.

Next year when DS2 is older it is Ticket to Ride.

We got Mexico Train last year - I love it but my in-laws fell apart trying to cope with it.
But we enjoyed Coppit - and the in-laws got the hang of that.

We do articulate and articulate for kids in tandem, which works!

Definitely Ticket to Ride!

I second Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride (the European map is easier) and some of our other favourites:
SmallWorld
Dixit
King of Tokyo
Ugg-Tect
Alhambra
Takenoko
Survive
Pompeii
Steam Park
Augustus

And if you like cooperative games (you're all trying to win together against the game):
Pandemic is the classic
Forbidden Desert
Castle Panic is okay

Any of these are so much better than Monopoly :D

The Kubb game looks great!

I think all the kids in our neighborhood will enjoy it! And we can take it with us camping too - DS's scout troop will definitely want to play.

Q-bitz, qwirke, cluedo and phase 10 are big hits here.

Kids play mexican train dominoes with my parents a lot, it's good fun too.

I'm getting our lot sleeping queens card game as our new game.

Rubiks race is really fun but just for 2 players.

Escape from Atlantis and ticket to rude are good - we've just bought hey that's my fish for the in laws which is supposed to be good!

fuzzpig Tue 02-Dec-14 23:23:46

Ticket to rude grin grin doesn't sound so family friendly...

Kubb is excellent. We take it with us whenever we go away for a weekend and inevitably end up with every kid in 100 meter radius joining in. Can't recommend enough!
