We live 150 miles away and only see her 1-2 times a year as we dont have a lot of money for petrol/travel. Dp offered for her to come up this year-like he does every year and she declines- but this year she has said yes! Its not a problem, I love her to bits, but nervous as no doubt she has different traditions etc (for example we dont have turkey) but im sure it'll all come together.

She will love watching the kids open their presents, she's very family orientated and misses getting to watch (she had/has 6 kids) I know not a lot of people would say this but I'm looking forward to it. Especially since my mam is no longer with us. Ooo and we'll have a newborn baby to coo over as sil (brothers gf) is due mid december and they are also coming for xmas dinner and my nan!

Dinner for 9 it is!

Could you combine some traditions? Other than Turkey does she have some must haves for dinner? Could you maybe do a turkey crown?

When my MIL came for Christmas, I phoned about a month ahead and asked what she loved having/doing over the Christmas period.. I then incorporated this into what we normally do. This resulted in a lovely Christmas for all and the start of some new family traditions. Enjoy
