What present do you think your DC will remember forever?

The one that is remembered long after most of the gifts are forgotten?

I'd like to think my DCs will remember some of the toys they've got, and I think they will have fond memories of sharing the books they've been given (even though books never really get a look in on the day itself!)

But I think the one thing she will always remember is coming downstairs last year to see her favourite painting (starry night - she got obsessed with it when they did an art topic at school) on the wall - she'd not asked for it, but we'd got a poster of it and a nice frame, and Father Christmas hung it overnight. Her face was the best thing ever! She still looks at it happily all the time and talks excitedly about when Santa gave her the painting. I really think (hope) that moment will stay with her. It will stay with me, anyway. It's not even a painting I love that much but every time I look at it it makes me happy because of how happy she was to see it :)

Her American Girl doll. It was her "greatest wish" the year before but we just couldn't work it into our budget. So Santa wrote her a nice note explaining that he would not be bringing it for her. DD put on a brave face but I could tell she was very disappointed.

The next year DD again asked for an American Girl doll and again it seemed like it was not going to happen. I was heartbroken to have to let her down again and especially so because I was pretty sure it would be her last year believing in Santa. But then a miracle happened. I happened to be on the internet one morning and came across a special sale on 2 of the historical AG dolls. I grabbed one as fast as I could. I later heard that the sale had sold out in less than 2 hours, so it was very coincidental that I had come across it at all.

A few days before Christmas, DD started saying that she was going to tell Santa that he didn't have to bring her an AG doll, that it was o.k. I think she was preparing herself in case she would be disappointed again. When we put the presents under the tree on Christmas Eve, we tucked the package with the doll in it back behind the tree where it was hard to see. Christmas morning, we opened up our gifts and settled down with our cinnamon rolls. I asked DD if she had gotten everything she wanted and she said "mostly".

After a little longer, I pointed to the back of the tree and said "Hey, what's that over there?" DD didn't see it right away but when she did, I asked her to pull it out and then asked who it was for. She was excited to find that it was for her. She started to pull the paper off and then just kind of froze. "But I told him he didn't have to..." And then she very gently set the package down and finished unwrapping it. I thought she was going to cry. Heck, I thought I was going to cry.

So, the gift that will be the most memorable for DD to receive will also be the most memorable for me to give.

When Santa replaced repaired her favourite rag doll during the night. He did the same for my brother when he was a boy and I remember being soooo impressed (at his invisible stitching skills).

Last year on a whim I grabbed an extra last minute present for DD, it was a (rather cute) stuffed husky toy for 10. I have to say it was the best tenner I have ever spent as 'Storm' is her constant companion, she makes clothes for him, writes stories about him and generally loves him to death. I don't think I'll ever top the joy of that last minute tenner!

I remember getting a Barbie Bellington when I was 5, and a globe when I was 6 my wants changed quite wildly as a kid yet I don't remember any other presents.

As for my DC, they're 6 and almost 4 and have asked for one Disney Animator doll each, but I've got all of them cheap in sales plus the outfits to match on eBay not Disney Store so this could quite possibly be one they remember.

Our DC don't seem to 'long' for anything and play more with paper and pens etc than toys so I find it really hard to think of a memorable present. I'll always remember getting a bike and how excited I was so had thought of that for this year but my dad beat me to it as yesterday says he's refurbished that same bike for dd!
The other present I simply will never forget that changed my life completely was a horse. I simply can't compete with that for our DC sadly but maybe one year a small furry pet would make dd v happy!

The majority of us won't remeber that much about what we got for Christmas.

I can only really remember getting a handbag as a teenager that I'd really coveted. Whist I can remeber all sorts of things from childhood, they were nothing special as such and haven't left a wow effect.

I have very strong memories about Christmas but very few of presents having a wow effect in my mind 40 years later. Possibly did in my 20s, but not now.

I don't remember anything from my parents because they didn't really do Christmas. I didn't get presents from them as they thought it was pointless.

I really remember one present from a family friend though. I must have been around 6 or so. She asked me what I'd like for Xmas/birthday (December). I'd never been asked that question before and came up with the request "a red ring binder with a t-Rex on the front" :o

Well, obviously this lady could find no such thing - it's not like I'd seen it in a shop or anything, just dreamed it up, and this was early 90s so pre-eBay! But at Xmas I opened a package from her, it was a plain red ring binder and she had wrapped it up with a cuddly t-Rex on top. She made sure I got my wish :) :) :)

A new duvet cover and pillow case, I was 5 and Santa changed my bedding while I was asleep. I will be doing this for my boys when they are a little older.

My dc are 12 and 11 and have had many, many fabulous presents over the years but the one they remember is the one Rudolph sat on! They can't remember what the present was, just that the box was squashed and Santa had left a nite to apologise fir Rudolph sitting on it! Ds no longer believes but still remembers the hilarity and amazement of that! In reality it was a reduced Ben 10 set (bedding, fleece, cushion etc) and was the last one, hence bid being bashed but it was such a bargain I bought it and made up a story they fondly remembered fir years!

I remember lots, I remember the huge doll left on my bed I woke up to it, for a few years ( new ones) chicabooboo, was a biggie for me, cindy, silver racer bike, violet stationary set, dolls house, off top of head..

My sister works for M&S and has been told occasion/party wear and nightwear will be 50% off very soon. She thinks it will be this weekend so keep a look out.

My dd has a bear from house of Fraser called, she is her favourite bear and goes everywhere with her. She even buys her bear something for Xmas every year and has a framed photo of her bear by her bed.

I am terrified that the bear will get lost so a couple of years ago I bought a replacement from eBay, replacement bear though was unloved so had pristine fur and looked very different (even though it was the same bear). I did think of saving it till she was 18 and then giving it to her but couldn't wait so she had him last year.

It started on dec 1st when she got a letter (written by me using my left hand) from new bear saying he was her bears twin brother and that he understood that my dd loved her bear and would it be possible for him to come visit and perhaps stay.

We had the whole of December where dd made up such a wonderful imaginative story about how it would take the new bear ages to arrive as he had such a long way to go.

Xmas morning I placed new bear with a little suitcase outside and rang the doorbell - dd was absolutely blown away . So glad I didn't wait till she was 18
