Ideas for Grandmother in her 90s...

I'm really stuck on what to get for my Nan, who is in her 90s. Literally have no idea...what are you all getting your grandmas?

Hamper - tea bags, marmalade, sherry etc or whatever she likes!
DVD of David TV series
Hot water bottle
Shawl or blanket for her legs

Seriously, many people (including myself) just don't want any more 'stuff' in their lives, I've posted about this before but when my beloved granny died we cleared out boxes and boxes of carefully chosen presents which she had just put away over the years - think years of out of date cakes and chocolates as well as all the nice smellies, hankies, hot water bottles, photo frames, calendars, shawls etc etc etc.

Do you live near her, just take her out for a nice meal or to a show.

My Grandma just turned 90 and says not to buy for her this year. I'm going to do a photo of DD and a Charity Gift I think.

Magazine subscription. We got my dh's nana one for good housekeeping a couple of years back (she is now 91) and have kept it going. She loves it brcuase it is a gift that lasts all year, is disposable, is a treat because magazines are expensive to buy individually and arrives at her house as a nice surprise each month. Some subscription packages offer an extra free gift you can wrap up and give on the day or you can buy a December copy and wrap it with a note about the delivery beginning in January. I appreciate this might not be for everyone - my own nanna would never read a magazine and seemed to consider it an insult that you assumed she would have the time to read one! But it might be good in your situation.

Like the idea of a large print book or magazine subscription, but not sure how good her eyesight is (I am aware this makes me sound like a terrible granddaughter, but it's not the kind of think you can ask easily!)

Definitely like the idea of a snuggly blanket...can anyone recommend a good one please?

She is fit and well, although not up for long walks etc, and doesn't like to be away from home for too long, so not sure she'd enjoy going out for a meal or anything like that. She also has a Christmas birthday, so any more ideas gratefully received!

I've bought one of my granny's a charity gift for about the past 10 years - usually a buy a child a school lunch for a year type. She's really into education so she likes that. She's over a hundred now and has more brooches, shawls than you could shake a stick at. She always liked a bit of Nivea as well.

My other nana gets cigarettes, sherry and liquorice Allsorts, she's in her late 80s.

Gift for my grandparents which went down well, a sheepskin rug from Ikea, my grandad uses it to sit on / lie his feet on.

Nice food! My gran has more nighties/ perfume/ books than she could ever use if she lived to 300!

So I usually make a nice hamper, with some luxury food- jam, honey, biscuits, posh tea, chocolates etc.

I usually go to Dobbies and get some nice stuff from there, but this year have bought the special ranges from lidl and saved a fortune. Wee wicker basket to pop it all in, voila!

Every year I do a hamper for DH 's gran. I get small packets of everything as she lives by her self but I get lovely treats she lives buy would never spend her money on so, for eggs, a pack of 4 fancy truffles, mini jars of really nice jam,and always a mini bottle of baileys which she loves but only drinks at Xmas

She always really likes it and I enjoy making it up for her as I see things.

We're making up a little hamper for my Nan, with nice tea and shortbread, and the kids are making a tea towel and shopping bag (just got plain ones and they are decorating with fabric pens.)

Got mine a beautiful brooch because she likes to wear them on her coats and jumpers.

Aldi have the ultimate snuggliest slanket/blanket thing in now! Treated myself today - lovely pattern - muted Scandinavian in off white, pale blue, light gray and so, so soft and snugly. Kids been fighting over it all day! Only £15. I bought my friend with bad eye sight a big magnifying glass as a wee extra and she loves it! My gran loved getting the monthly flower delivery as mentioned up thread - but make sure it's display able flowers in a box unless she has done one to put them in a vase for her as my gran struggled with that bit and flowers stayed in the box for a day as she wouldn't ask anyone to help! We just got a family history done and all the family loved it!

We have done photos , history books of town they grew up in ie Manchester in war went down very well.
Wool , food , miniature alcohol , hot chocolate in nice flavours , jigsaw , photo books ,calendars , hampers.
A very tricky gift to buy good luck

We bought MIL a kindle a few years ago but are upgrading her to a Paperwhite kindle this year. She is 91 and fit and active.
DDs are getting her leather gloves , gel manicure, good bath bubbles.
She gets a flower delivery every month from others in the family, always loves that.
A few years ago we got her wifi access for her laptop.
Cashmere cardigan is well loved although she has to be persuaded not to keep it for "best"
Ooh hand made bed socks and a light weight bed jacket are worn a lot.

Nothing that needs dusting !

Photos of the great grandchildren preferably wearing something she has knitted.

We've gone for a photo jigsaw puzzle this year with a picture of the grandkids on it. There are a couple of sites like //www.thephotopuzzleshop.com that make big puzzles, not just novelty ones.
Otherwise, I agree with Ragwort - we all have so much "stuff"! For my mum I often get her a day out somewhere with afternoon tea, or tickets for the theatre, the ballet or a concert.

My mum is 93 and, as others have said, doesn't want 'stuff' - but otoh she wants something to unwrap! So this year she is having a smallish potted plant / potted bulbs or something like that (can you tell I haven't been shopping yet?) and a card saying I will take her to her favourite auction house on viewing day (she finds it very hard to get there now) and then lunch together, which is an outing she will really enjoy.

Something she would never get for herself which is a bit luxurious? Some chocolates/biscuits/hamper (budget dependent) from Fortnum and Mason or similar?
