How to make Xmas special under these circumstances?

Our situation is a bit rubbish, though people have it worse of course.

Xmas will be only me, DH, a toddler and a baby. DH and I don't really get on. So I need to plan some sort of Xmas that glosses over the fact that we'll be "forced" to spend time together, which we don't usually do and make it special and lovely for DC1 (who will get Christmas a bit this year).

My ideal Xmas would be to be the hostess for a huge extended family with loads of laughter and food but we're not that. So what can I do?

I was thinking of making a gingerbread house and some Xmas craft, Watch a film? I just don't have much to say to my husband and Christmas makes me very aware of that.

How old is your toddler? From my experience (I have lots of children :) ) Christmas day is so busy that there really isn't much time at all to 'do nothing'. There is always Lego to build, games to play, toy's to put together and of course dinner to cook, once the children are in bed there is plenty of tidying that needs doing.

Just try and have some enjoyable time with your little ones, a day off of the usual backwards and forwards that having small children brings.

DC1 is almost 3 and will get extra bits for the train set and Duplo I think. So we can play with that.

I'm just really dreading the situation. Who knows, maybe it won't be so bad.
