father Christmas presents

Now ds is three he's starting to get Christmas this year - so how do people explain father Christmas, and what gifts come from him? I was thinking that stockings are from him and main presents from us? Stockings are just small gifts and chocolate etc.

Everyone is different but DS gets a stocking and his main presents from Santa, then another main present, book set and chocolates from us which we put under the tree with our other presents.

That's what we do as Father Christmas has lots of people to give presents to.

The beauty is s you get to make up what suits your family!

In ours, father Christmas delivers the presents and stockings - and gives a family gift like a board game.

We started doing elf on the shelf when the eldest was three, think they are looking forward to whether the elf will visit and cause mayhem more than father Christmas.

We don't do elf on the shelf
We do do a homemade advent calendar that gives us a christmassy thing to do each day (some are jobs like make mince pies, some are things like school play, some are little treats)
FC fills stockings hung on the mantlepiece with "little treats and surprises", mostly just little bits and chocolate but always one smallish thing they want or have asked for.
Proper presents come from real named people, under the tree, opened after lunch.

It seems odd to take DC to see Father Christmas but then he doesn't bring a big present only a stocking, but if they don't go to a grotto then I guess it doesn't matter.
We have a stocking and a main present from FC then another present from us. If I like the toy they have asked FC for and think they will get a lot of use from it FC tends to bring something else and the toy comes from me. If I think it won't get much play value but they will like it for a short time on the day then that comes from FC and I get something better from me Wink.
Other presents under the tree are from family members.

In our house father christmas does the stocking and one big present (thus far a joint present between the dc).

We also do a christmas eve hamper which is from fc's elves, but the advent calendar and our homegrown version of elf on the shelf are from me (and the elf is just a game).

Stocking full of smaller stuff from Santa. Main present from me and dh.

ds once asked Santa for some cheese salami Grin

We set it up the way we did to recession-proof our Xmas somewhat - much easier to explain why mummy and daddy can't afford xyz costing eleventh billion quid than why Santa cannot.

It also means no messing around with Santa as delivery person etc (very complicated)

My kids have asked Santa in the past for sellotape and blu-tac!

Bar a small gift from us, Santa brings stockings and all presents.

Santa brings the main gift that they asked for. Atm they're only 4, 3 and 2 so they only ask for one present and that's what FC gets them. We get the rest. FC presents are wrapped in different paper to ours.

Father Christmas brings everything here. They have the stockings at the bottom of the bed, it's a sign he has been if it's filled. Then we go downstairs for the main event Smile. The only other person who buys for the children is my mother and she also writes from Father Christmas. We don't do adult gifts or presents during the year, so Christmas and birthdays they are very spoilt. This is how it was when I was a child.

We do a massive stocking which are just Santa presents. This is usually one big present and then about 6 smaller presents such as books, small games and then the usual stuff like chocolate coins. All the other presents under the tree are from whoever bought them.

We did stocking gifts from Father Christmas and presents from whoever they were labelled from. You could say that those gifts were delivered by Santa, as opposed to from Santa himself.

Most from FC and a few token from us. FC is only around for a few years after all and they have another 60 years of getting presents from mum and dad...

All presents and stockings here are from FC. All presents from anyone else are from them. I only tend to buy books and clothes throughout the year and they are spolit rotten at Christmas as this is hoe it was when I was young.

In our house Father Christmas delivers what she writes in her letter, 2/3 things (and whatever we write on behalf of her baby sister) in different wrapping paper which is closest to the fireplace.

We don't really say who the stockings are from.

Everything else we buy is from us or family...

That's what I was wondering about this year as the one present ds has asked for is being given to him by his grandad, so I can't say it's from FC can I?

Whoever mentioned the grotto thing, I wondered about that too as this year we might take him to his first one deprived child We've never done letters to the big man.

In our house FC brings the stockings (but it's a big stocking with some 'proper' presents in there as well as the usual chocolate etc.). He also leaves one bigger present (something DS has asked for but not neccessarily the best present) set up in front of the tree. Everything else is wrapped up under the tree from us and family.

My children are older but they play along :) I do the stockings and tree gifts and the main large gift is from Father Christmas (I refuse to call him Santa sorry) eg a bike or console

Report
Notso · 19/11/2014 19:27

DH and I don't get them anything, Mums and Dads only buy for non believers.
FC brings stockings to their rooms and fills their sacks downstairs with presents.
The presents under the tree are all from family and friends and usually get opened on Boxing Day.

Grotto Father Christmas's are not the real ones. They are elves in disguise helping Father Christmas know what to get everyone.
