What do I get a 2 year old who already has...

Geotrax + a remote control car to go on it

A wooden farm with animals
Lots of books

A rocking horse
A bounce and spin zebra
A mat with roads etc on it for the cars
Paper and crayons/pencils

He plays with the cars and the trains most of all. He likes Peppa Pig, Thomas and Ben and Holly on TV if that helps?

I want to get him something he will love and play with lots. Was looking at Playmobil but not sure if it's too early for anything imaginative. Or the Thomas take n play but too similar to the Geotrax perhaps? Sooo stuck for ideas and need to order soon while there are still offers to be had.

Get a Peppa pig set, ours has been played with by 2 boys over 2yrs and the 4.5yr still plays with it now. Think you can get a school set that comes with quite a bit

a kitchen? the Ikea one get great reviews. or theres a fold up one from elc which is quite good if u don't have much space

most of the peppa toys are rubbish (or were when I bought for dd1) the one that was pretty good was the campervan with family. both ddâ??s play with it and its quite sturdy.

imaginext is a very nice looking range - they have dinosaurs, castle or batman ranges. maybe more not looked into it much.

happyland or little people good for imaginative play. again lots to choose from. favourite happyland in our house is Ferris wheel, house and the rocket.

busy books for a smaller present - book with 12 little figures and playmat. lots of different types normally around £5 in supermarkets or whsmith.

puppets - the puppet company ones are lovely

oh and dressing up even just a few hats/accessories. Asda costumes and Sainsburys costumes are reasonable and wash and look nice

Is he 2 close to 3, or just barely 2?

My son is almost 3 and absolutely adores playmobil. It's only very recently that he started playing imaginatively with it, before he just liked sitting the people on the chair and setting out all the accessories. We got him the 123 firestation last Christmas and its one of our most played with toys.

Another huge success was a road mat. It's basically a plastic, foam backed mat with a road pattern on it that he drives his cars on. He absolutely adores it.

We got DS the IKEA kitchen for his second birthday and it was a massive hit. IKEA do lovely sets of kitchen utensils and pots & pans as well. Other people got him a toy kettle and toaster from ELC and wooden play food (the sets of fruit, veg and sandwiches you can cut up and put back together again). He loved it all. Wilko wooden play food is half the price of the ELC stuff and completely fine.

He's now almost three and loves his marble run and playdoh. We have a big box of moulds, stamps etc to go with the latter.

A mini micro scooter. Hands down, best thing we've ever bought DS. He loves it and it makes all those little nips to the shops/park/preschool so much easier and quicker.

Another vote for a toy kitchen. We got DS the IKEA one for his 2nd birthday and 6 months on it still the most played with toy. We picked up the Ikea saucepans and some toy food from somewhere else. Think we're adding to it at Christmas with some Hape kitchen equipment (probably a toaster as he loves to help make toast).

Yes to play cooking stuff. If you get plastic he can play with them in the bath/in the garden in summer with bowls full of different coloured water, cornflour, vinegar, oil, bicarbonate of soda etc.

Also toy toolkit - ELC used to do a great wooden one with three working parts, bolts and screws, chunky "nails" to bang in, or you can get slightly more advanced ones which do more stuff. Avoid noisy toy drills etc though, they drive you mad. But this toy has had loads of use, DS used to walk around "being a fixer" and asking me what was broken so he could "fix" it.

My mum got DS an imaginext castle when he was just turned 3. He's now 5 and it's still his most played with toy.

He has barely looked at his playmobil.

What about Joey JCB sets? Ds liked those and still plays with them sometimes.

Imaginary and independent play are the things I value most for him, so if I spot it cheap enough I will add dressing up stuff - he currently has cat and bunny ears plus homemade tutu and dragon outfit from events we've been to plus a couple of silly hats.

His absolute favourite toy is dolly in the buggy. They're dragged everywhere
