Happiness!

I love love love the Christmas topic here, it's full of so much light and goodness and magic. If ever I'm sad or overwhelmed I read a few of the Christmas traditions threads and it's not long before peace is restored.

Anyone else have christmas songs that they find comforting? I love all kinds of music related to Christmas - carols, hymns, pop songs, etc - but if ever I am desperately sad (at any time of year, not just in the lead-up to Christmas) I listen to Silver Bells. There is something about that song that says everything is ok in the world.

(Sorry if I'm de-railing)

I'm sure I will!

Re music, Fairytale of New York makes me well up pretty much every time I hear it. You can't beat Mariah and 'All I Want for Christmas' for dancing around the kitchen with the kids!

I'm off to Google Silver Bells. .....

Fairytale of New York is my favourite sad Christmas song. It's just so utterly tragic and romantic in that heartbreaking way.

And All I want for Christmas is my most favourite song for feeling happy and full of Christmas cheer - you're exactly right, you just can't keep from dancing around and feeling happy to be alive. A brilliant song.

I also love Bing Crosby and David Bowie's Little Drummer boy. The background theme of the old giving way to the new and the inevitable circle of life, plus the fact that Bing died only a few weeks later. Never mind the message of the song itself. Very special.

There are so many special songs I could mention.

Christmas Eve and Carols from King's...

The old Danish hymns we used to sing whilst dancing around our Christmas tree, led by my grandfather holding his battered hymn book...

But Silver Bells, I don't know why exactly but it's just perfect.

I bloody love christmas. Kids are just at te right age to really get Christmas and still believe in the magic of it. I go completely over the top and have christmas notebooks etc am going to splash out on a Christmas organiser in January if they are on sale. I love Xmas food and Xmas music and shopping with all the lights and the crisp December air , baileys hot choc, watching cheesy made for TV Christmas movies, staying up til 3 am wrapping presents, making Christmas goodies to eat, I even love Turkey and Brussel sprouts!!!!
Actually thinking about it I am a christmasholic and probably need to find a rehab group!!!!!

Heheheh I'm part of a holiday group on another forum and I recently started a post with the admission that my name is X and I'm a Christmas-aholic Grin

But I think it's a vice we can legitimately indulge Smile

My favourite Christmas song is Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas sung by Judy Garland. I live 5,000 miles away from my mum so the line "Someday soon, we all will be together...if the fates allow" always gets me as due to her health and our finances we've spent several Christmases apart. Thank goodness for Skype!

I love Christmas!

Welcome, schmeegle. Xmas Smile

I have to say I think I am the only poster who is not keen on carols from Kings, I tried them last year and found them depressing!

Too slow and flat..and joyless....

I prefer motown xmas songs and more upbeat stuff...
