What are you getting your 5yo boys?

I'm sure there was a similar thread but I can't find it.

My DS is tricky to buy for and this year I'm stumped.
He really wants a globe but my inlaws are getting that, and he likes lego, but still has some left from his birthday to make.
We have a train set and playmobil but it barely gets played with.

We limit screen time as it has a terrible effect on him, so no tablet.

Please help!! What are you getting yours?

My 5yo DS has asked for

Captain America things
Minions
And a robot dog

So I have bought him the dog, and asked family to get him captain America/minion related things.

Ninja turtles vehicles and baddies. Megazord and some powerrangers. I have bought him some trashies and the new skylander game. He likes to draw so I have bought him some crayola sets and some klutz books on fingerprint pictures. Scooby doo pillow pet and a toothless dragon. Far too many books from the book people.

A motorbike and hear, but that's a bit specific!

He's also getting a kidizoom watch from us and book people book set, a power ranger costume from my sis, walkie talkies from sil and a telescope from his grandparents.

For his stocking he has: a tube of jelly tots, a letting, an insulated cup, 2 sets of free-from-the-newspaper lego and some hot chocolate.

My ds (5 and a half) is having:

Cobra attack game
Star Wars command stuff
Playmobil pirates
Books, lots of books
Some schleich dragons (gorgeous and want to keep them myself)
Obligatory cuddly toy
Few craft sets
Catan junior
Lego star wars game
Who shook hook
Cluedo

He really likes playing games. He's not really into many toys as such and never has been. It's quite draining to be honest because he doesn't occupy himself for any length of time even now.

My ds would like a rc car (nikko vaporizer, the rechargeable one)some crayola stuff, board games, new football, football boots and bigger football goal for the garden. If he is very lucky he may get a scooter too. He was 6 last month.

Mine likes transformers, hot wheels and ninja turtles, but we have loads of that kind of stuff.

I'm aiming on the Star Wars Command sets (like toy soldiers but star wars theme)
Hex bugs (just the bugs, he can build runs out of Lego)
Inevitably more Lego
A magnetic dart board
Family board games as joint present with older sibling (to try and cut down on the piles from relatives)

The Star Wars command stuff is great. We already have a number of the 4" figures but they've been put aside in favour of the command figures. We have a couple of sets but have got the star destroyer set for christmas. Think that's going to be the santa present.

Lego minifigure sets. There are two Lego education minifigure boxes that are approx fifty quid each but I'm torn between one of these and a complete set of one of the minifigures series. We have loads of cheapie ebay ones. He spends about an hour every day playing with minifigures, he has 39 already. He just loves assembling and reassembling the characters into different scenes. I also got some Lego Juniors sets on 3 for 2 as sets for minifigure play. As his birthday is in December, he will get a Lego garage separately and family are buying small lego city sets.

Goats, my ds also likes My Little Pony and if you don't have it, I recommend the Busy Books MLP box. He got this in the Summer and it fits well with lego size wise too.

Thanks for the ideas. DS also struggles to entertain himself. I'm being very tempted by magna tiles with the hope that they will give me a bit of peace!
I also like the idea of the Star Wars things.

Magna tiles look good, does anyone know which shops sell them? Amazon sell them at high prices (£100 for 100 pieces) which is a bit steep..

Report
Biggamehunter · 07/11/2014 21:30

I've eyes up magna tiles before but they're so expensive I kind of want to test them out before buying them!

The reviews are pretty good but some say they collapse. Ds would get annoyed with this.

We have wedgits if that helps anyone and they're really good!
