Christmas

Looking for a good Christmas show in Edinburgh......

I have two kids, aged 4 and 7, and I'm looking to entertain them this Christmas by taking them to see a Christmas show, e.g. a pantomime where they can actually get involved. The Kings Theatre panto is far too pricey (plus it's too big so the kids might not see as well), but I'm not sure what else is out there. Any suggestions?

Does it have to Edinburgh?

The Alahambra in Dunfermline has Sleeping Beauty more info and a bit cheaper than the Kings, although might not be that much cheaper if you have to get a train/bus

Have a look here. Hopefully you might find something.

Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh has Jack and the Beanstalk though lots of tickets already sold so depends when you want to go

I saw a poster on the train today for a show written by the woman who wrote The Gruffalo. I think it was called Stick Man or something like that?
I don't have DCs so not sure if that would be too babyish for them.
I think it was at the Festival Theatre.
(Have now realised I was obviously half asleep on the train and this is the most unhelpful post ever!)

Stickman is on, not sure where. My DCs go to the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh with school and have loved it.

I've just Googled it - it's part of Edinburgh's Christmas and is on in St Andrew Square. In a tent presumably!

For us it's always the panto at the Church Hill theatre in Morningside. It's a really child friendly panto with lots of audience participation and nowhere near the price of the Kings. We've already got our tickets for DickSmile Whittington this year. I think there's info on here on the What's On page.

I think the panto at the Church Hill Theatre (Edinburgh People's Theatre) will be just what you're looking for - I go every year and my kids LOVE it! Tickets are only £8 too for kids and it's everything you could want from a panto - I've already bought my tickets for this year & can't wait!

Have reviewed the event if you want to see it - obviously I haven't seen 'Dick Whittington' yet, but I'm sure it'll be just as good (or even better) than the pantos they do every year:

Thanks all for your advice - I've looked at all the various websites and I think I'm going to take the kids to the one at the Church Hill Theatre - it's easy to get to and for just £36 we can take a family of four! :) My purse will be happy, lol! Sounds like it's a good old-fashioned traditional panto too - my kids will be desperate to get up on the stage, I can tell!!
