Stocking fillers for men...

Ideas? I'd like to find a site that sells 'not too expensive' fillers that aren't just utter junk that waste our finances....i.e. crappy items like the chocolate boobs or 'health warning toilet paper' which would be fitting you put in the Secret Santa at work. So far I've got an engraved Keyring on the way which was a fiver...

What do people get their DHs/DPs?

PenelopeGarciasCrazyHair Tue 04-Nov-14 15:52:02

I'd like to make my DP an advent calendar this year so he has a little something to open every day (he's too impatient to wait for 25th so we always end up opening half our presents early!)

No ideas, but I'm place marking.

I did buy him some cufflinks from Not On The High Street, that might be a good place to start?

Elizabethtailored Tue 04-Nov-14 15:56:33

I need help with this too! Trying to avoid tat that gets a smile but ultimately ends up in the bin but don't want it to be boring.

So far I have-
Stripy socks
Bridgewater matches in a Union Jack box for the fire
Planning on a Stilton or one of those cheddar a that looks like a bomb
Silk knot cufflinks
Little framed pic of our DS
Nice cheese biscuits
Hunter weekly boot liners

I found the Handpickedcollection quite useful

Personalised glass coke bottle from the bargain thread?

FelixFelix Tue 04-Nov-14 16:04:43

Im stuck with this too. I've already used my budget for DP's presents but I'm sewing DD a stocking so I'm going to make him a secret one too and fill it with bits from DD.

So far I've got some CK boxer shorts reduced to a tenner and that's it. I don't want to spend much but don't want to buy useless crap.

The only other thing I can think of is sweets or chocolate hmm

I have got dh:

Chocolate selection box
Lego mini figure (which will be subsumed ino the kids selection)
A novelty cd (but I think he'll like it so is only kind of novelty)
A book
A lottery ticket
A personalised mug (from the children really)

iloveholidays Tue 04-Nov-14 16:26:31

aftershave samples
little bottles of alcohol
novelty food
lottery ticket
golf balls
golf gloves (if a golfer)

Givemecaffeine21 Tue 04-Nov-14 16:28:51

Good ideas so far! Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't want to literally throw money away! I'm off to the hand picked collection....

Things I have put in in the past, let me think.
Mini Green and Blacks/other naice choc in different flavours
Good quality socks (I know, yawn)
A little tin of plasters with ninjas on (he used to work with scalpel blades in his hobby!)
Miniature aftershave
Miniature bourbon
A nice smelling candle for his man shed (something gingery-lemony)
Usually something silly ie a miniature model of Starbug from Red Dwarf, or a toy lorry with his name on the side from one of those gift shop 'find your kids name' racks.
There are lots more but my brain's had the plug pulled it seems.

Magazine is a good one. I've added a cycling magazine to the list!

I struggle with socks as my DP is a size 12/13 and most places only go up to an 11 hmm Any ideas where would be good for some nice socks for him? He wanted merino wool cycling socks but they aren't cheap!

Givemecaffeine21 Tue 04-Nov-14 16:36:23

I'm adding to my own thread here, but a 'man tin' or 'man coinage and pocket fluff' tray is cool - I think I'm going to get the latter. (Amazon)

Elizabethtailored Tue 04-Nov-14 16:36:50

Like the lottery ticket idea.

My DH likes Scott Nicholls stripey socks but might be a bit OTT for some!

JellyBabiesSaveLives Tue 04-Nov-14 16:37:22

Random ideas from this year and previous years:

Patterned/printed duck tape
star wars key covers
space food ice cream
lego ice cube tray
cheap dvd of childhood favourite cartoon (dangermouse!)
chocolate/flavoured peanuts/crisps
christmas ale
espresso mug

eastmidswarwicknightnanny Tue 04-Nov-14 16:54:50

My husband so far this yr has (max spend per item £2)

Iron man cufflinks
Fav bodyspray
Choc orange
A new hairbrush (tangle teezer style)

N will have some new socks and prob a jar pickled eggs!!

4forksake Tue 04-Nov-14 18:41:23

• Miniature of his fave tipple
• Mixer to go with above
• Lego cuff links (got some from ebay for about £2.59 & they're fab & have loads of colours)
• website called campus gifts sells lots of quirky stuff which isn't too expensive
• not on the high street (you can select things to look at that have free delivery)

Problem I find with some websites is that you pay a fortune for delivery, so if you only want one or two things, it's too expensive. I search the catalogues then try to find cheaper on ebay!

Lovelydiscusfish Tue 04-Nov-14 20:27:19

Photo key ring from Tesco photo gifts or similar.
Favourite sweets/chocolates (Poundland have a good selection of sweets)
Favourite drinking snack (my dh likes a jar of pickled cockles!)

123Jump Wed 05-Nov-14 10:50:25

Bottle of Baileys-with glass if I can get one.
Kiehls -moisturiser/after shave balm/face scrub
Boden socks
A book on walking the Belfast mountains.

I can't stand tat, so no 'novelty' items.

123Jump Wed 05-Nov-14 10:51:27

Oooooo, I see people are doing cheese....will add a nice mature cheddar too.
Good suggestion!

enormouse Wed 05-Nov-14 13:05:44

For dp I've already gotten

A book on whisky
Haynes star wars t shirt

I'm planning on adding
A few whisky miniatures
Some shaving cream and moisturiser from lush
Pop vinyl figure
Some little star wars figures
Box of wine gums
Some nice coffee
Possibly a new mug

Oldieandgoldie Wed 05-Nov-14 20:19:10

Download a free quiz from the Internet about his favourite hobby? (Or Google Hammond Harewood every year...this year's theme is TV)

iTunes voucher...on special offer in Boots? (£10 each)

An IOU for 'whatever'!!!!

A photograph made into a lens cloth? (Very cheap on eBay last year, haven't looked this year)

A man shower sponge from Boots (I think it's either Lynx or FCUK, but very good)

porgie80 Wed 05-Nov-14 20:23:22

To add to what has already been suggested:

Boxers (TK Maxx do boxes of Calvins pretty cheap)
Ties- assuming your DH wears ties for work (again- TK Maxx do ones like Ted Baker very reasonably)

Oldieandgoldie Wed 05-Nov-14 20:23:45

The squares were meant to be smiley, winky faces.

And the man-sponge is Lynx. (Sorry can't link, for some strange reason)

Petallic Thu 06-Nov-14 07:35:04

eBay sell blank photo fridge magnets in different size packs for you to add your own photos. I'm using these as stocking fillers for quite a few people this year

notamonkeysuncle Thu 06-Nov-14 09:20:59

DPs will contain various toys he enjoyed in his childhood. It'll be two fold because they are things he can enjoy with DD.
So far I've got (with his mums help)
A spud gun
Noisey putty
Jumping beans
A mini slinky
A man that walks down walls
and various sweets he loves.
Along with socks, smellies and boxers
