Can I ask for help from expat MN-ers in Oz?

My brother emigrated to Perth this year, and I'd like to send him an Xmas present. Was thinking of sending British sweets or food that you can't get there.....but I don't know what that would be! Is there anything you especially miss now you're in the antipodes?

Thanks for your help!

  1. I should be careful of sending anything that can be eaten. Having watched the Australian Customs programmes, it looks as if all food either taken or posted to Australia is confiscated.

  1. You'd get more Australians answering if you were to post this in the Am I Being Unreasonable section. (Am I being unreasonable for wanting to send food to my brother. What do we have in the UK that Aussies don't? sort of thing)

There is an American sweet shop in Sydney that also sells British sweets. My friend moved there last year. I bought them online. I think they deliver to Perth too. Will find the details tonight Grin

There are a few British sweet shops around Perth and all the supermarkets sell stuff as well. UK chocolate is definitely better and we have had loads as well as Tunocks tea cakes sent over no problem with customs.

To be honest you have left it to late for posting to guarantee delivery for Christmas.
And as a last thought last Christmas was 42degrees in Perth so not chocolate eating weather.

Thanks very much for the replies. Will check out Australian shops that may deliver, and also look at last posting dates. AIBU is too scary for me happy!

Early December is last post dates to NZ and OZ, 3/4 Dec, plenty of time to post but when I asked this same question it seems most popular UK foodstuffs can be purchased in OZ.

Yes kiwi I think you're right, having had a look online. Hmm, not sure what to send now!

I had no problem posting crisps and Galaxy chocolate to my friends in Perth. The Cadburys there is cack. It has chemicals/preservatives in it to stop it melting, so it's a really rubbish version.

They can get Marmite in Woolies and Coles. I'm sure there's a few shops that can send stuff out.

There is a lolly (sweet) shop in Hillarys, maybe they do a Xmas hamper for expats. I'm sure I've seen stuff online before. If not, try Pomsinoz website, there's normally loads of info on there for expat shops, online Xmas orders etc.
