Having 'Fakemas' next month with the in-laws as we are away for Christmas. There will be 9 of us - DH and I (eat anything), DD1 (big time carnivore), DD2 (likes plain food), MIL (no citrus), FIL (eats anything), Aunt (no shellfish), SIL (no red meat, no starchy carbs, no sugar, no cow dairy), SIL's DP (Jewish - not strictly kosher but not into pork products). What the effing jeff should DH and I cook? We are thinking of doing a buffet due to the impossibility of thinking of one menu to rule them all. Any ideas please?

Can you not just do a roast? Should be plenty in there to suit everyone?

Turkey? Then they can pick and choose what they do / don't want?

Roast chicken, plenty of vegetables, roast potatoes, yorkshire puds?

Roast chicken dinner.
And let SIL low carb.
Don't forget the cranberry sauce.
I can't imagine turkey would be great without streaky bacon on its back.
And yorkshires with any roast.
A buffet will run you ragged.
Vege sausages as a nod to your Jewish guest.

We are all very foodie and into cooking as well which adds to the headache - a straightforward roast just wouldn't be impressive / special enough. That makes me sound like a right snobby cah doesn't it?!

I've been consulting Yotam Ottolenghi in honour of lovely Jewish DP but I can't find anything that fits everyone's needs. He does have a lovely chicken and cardamom rice dish though. Maybe chicken as one of the main dishes and something fish?

Right, your down to chicken/turkey, or fish if the carnivore would be OK with that. Uninspired atm tho. Do you need 3 courses?

SiL looks like she's on fruit salad for pudding. But these are always successful I've often wondered about making a dark and while chocolate one, and swirling them together, but have never had the time or the audience ( ie someone who would take a disaster). Maybe with raspberries, if they are still around?

this looks yummy for starters, and avocados seem to be everywhere at the moment.
Otherwise what about something goats cheesy for starters?

Thank you addictedtosugar - loving the avocado / tomato recipe! Chocolate pots a good plan too - SIL does make an exception for dark chocolate, especially after her 4th strong cocktail Wink

I think something with a few dishes so people can pick and choose
So
Curry - couple curries, rice, naans and some veggie side dishes
Mexican - fajitas, chilli, nachos, wedges, salad, Mexican rice
Greek - kleftiko lamb, roasted veg, couscous, Greek salad, new potatoes tatizkiki (sp?)

A bit of a theme is a nice idea. Greek might be fun - and could do chicken souvlaki for SIL. Thank you!
