I have never been skiing or anywhere totally xmassy, not sooo interested in xmas markets, for atmos maybe...but wouldnt buy there.

Ideally I would want to land somewhere in snow, mountains, utterly beautiful and pretty and classic and be able to do some snowy things in three days and nights, and give Dc an amazing little break...

( we cant afford long holidays so aim to do something special over two or three nights a year)

Salzburg? You can get trains out to various mountainous places around. Plus watch Sound of Music in the run up to going. Smile

Aviemore in the Highlands of Scorland? It's in the Cairngorms so loads of skiing and also has a husky farm type place.

Go to lapland. You can get four days b&b for £2200 with thomsons (prices vary between £2-2500. Price inc b&b, full outerwear provided inc boots, snow suit, hat, etc and activity day and gala meal. The activity day includes snowmobiling, husky rides, reindeer rides and a snowmobile sled ride through the forest to see Santa. Kids can also ride mini skidoos. All included on price. The gala meal is a Xmas dinner style meal with fireworks at the end. It's magical. We went to Saariselka. Some resorts are commercial but this is isolated, only 20 miles from Russia and only has 4 hotels.

If kids are older you can still do all of this minus the Santa. We booked an independent husky trip where me an dh drove a dd in a sled driven by a team of 6 huskies each. It was like narnia! We stopped after an hour at a little hut for reindeer sandwiches and hot berry juice. One of the most amazing days of my life :)

For a non Santa break to the same place for the same adventures, try Inghams too.
