Christmas

What Christmas books do your children really love?

DD is going to be 18mo this Christmas and I'd really love to have a Christmas book to read to her for every day of advent. Obviously she is still quite young but I would like to have stories that can come out for a good 4-5 years still (so think more Polar Express and less That's Not My Reindeer Wink)

What Christmas books do your children love or have loved? We've already got Polar Express, The Jolly Christmas Postman and The Night Before Christmas.

I got a beautiful copy of the "night before Christmas" last year which came with a CD of the story being read by Peter, Paul and Mary. Eric Puybaret did the illustrations.

i love Nancy Tillmans books and she has a gorgeous book out called the Spirit of Christmas that I think is very touching

Too old at the moment but " The fourth King" by Ted Stiegler. Suitable from about 3-4 upwards and my 7 yr old still loves it.

For his second Christmas, when my son was 21mths, his absolute favourite book was Stick Man. But he also loved Grumpy Badger's Christmas that year too.

My dh has read The night before Christmas every year to our kids, its a ritual.
Last year he was working very late and ds2 23 read it to dd.
There was me, ds1 gf, and ds2 19 all listening.
I know how sad that sounds Grin

I used to read the night before Christmas when dd was little which she loved. Now she is a bit more grown up we now read a child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas very funny and reminds me of home

Christmas in the Mouse House! Lovely lift the flap book, featuring mice having a Victorian style Christmas - dd (2.5) loves this book all year round. My friend with slightly older dds says hers also love it - she keeps it back for Christmas though (stricter mum than I am!)

Mr Willowby's Christmas tree. It's all about a Christmas tree that is too big and keeps getting chopped down to fit in until everybody has a bit just big enough for their living room.
