what happens at a christingle service?

Was thinking of taking dc - for 2 yo really, dc2 is a baby. We're not religious though just thought it would be something nice to do.

Can someone explain roughly what happens and how long it is?

Also if baby cries can I just leave?

Your child should be given a Christingle, which is an orange with a candle in the top and some sweets stuck in the sides (there is Christian symbolism to this but I'll leave the service to explain it). I'd expect carols and a few prayers. There may also be a collection, probably in aid of the Children's Society.

Most churches are pretty relaxed, and no one will mind if you have to bustle out with a baby part way through -- or to walk around bouncing them while they cry or feed them or something if that works better for you.

Christingle servuxes are very child focussed - no one will bat an eyelid at a crying baby.

One thing to add to the above post - often churches slowly turn off the lights in the church during part of the service till just the lit candles are the only lighting. You might want to prepare your toddler for that if they aren't happy with the dark. (It's extremely beautiful if done well though)
