No in laws , no mad tidying of house , no trying to juggle work commitments around house guests. Same every year !
Get stressed out every year - just want the four of us - no house guests or going to stay with anyone.
My own home with my own family ... Humbug Hmm

Only 4 of us this year Grin Tis the best!

eightandthreequarters · 21/12/2013 14:59

We do this every year - it is wonderful. We do the Big Family Xmas Get-Together on boxing day, or soon after. But Christmas day is just for us, no obsessive cooking, just a nice dinner we make for ourselves with all of our favourite stuff. No catering for others, no mad tidying. It's bliss.

EustaciaVye · 21/12/2013 15:03

we do this. I love it.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 21/12/2013 15:44

we are doing this this year, sick of trying to please other people who are grumpy and never satisfied anyway. We are just pleasing ourselves, its strange I feel like I can breathe, and relax, its wonderful.

I hope you get to achieve this one day op?

ginmakesitallok · 21/12/2013 15:47

Only 4 of us here this year, for first time ever! I'm looking forward to it, but having some wobbles that we'll all fall out or be bored....

TheChimpParadox · 21/12/2013 16:15

Glad that it appears to be Ok not to do the big family thing .

Been working all week - just want to flob around on sofa this afternoon doing naff all - instead have been cleaning bathroom ( to OUT Inlaw standard).
Have a pile of washing that needs to be done and disappeared by tomorrow evening. Back in work Monday - DH is off - his parents - he can entertain them - when I get home form work I just want to relax.

I need Wine and Cake NOW !

We have 7 adults and a toddler all staying for a month. Bah bloody humbug. I have escaped to john lewis for some peace and quiet

WoodBurnerBabe · 21/12/2013 16:19

We have just us 5 this year. We are having 3 Christmas days, one today with my family, one with just us and one with inlaws on 28th. Perfect. No overload of presents and Christmas Day is just relaxed.

addictedtosugar · 21/12/2013 16:20

Wine
just 4 this year - first time ever.

TheChimpParadox · 21/12/2013 16:21

Oh NO ! - have a big Wine ! John Lewis - Saturday before Xmas - things must be desperate !

My period has just started and I get cramps for first couple of days - but at least my ranty PMT symptoms are starting to fade.

Humbug ...

Sometimes there are just two of us at Christmas. This year there will be five of us. Heard of somewhere local which does Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, champagne on arrival and including coffee for an 'affordable' amount, so might do that next year.

MoreThanChristmasCrackers · 21/12/2013 16:24

Every year the ils come over just for a few hours, but don't eat with us.
The rest of the time xmas eve until boxing day is just us 5. My dsis and neice come over for a while boxing day.
They stay to eat though, so my cooking can't be that bad Xmas Grin

zipzap · 21/12/2013 16:27

Flob around on the sofa with Wine and Cake and make dh clean the bathroom as it is his parents coming!

TheChimpParadox · 21/12/2013 17:06

DH fighting through the shops ! Have told him he can get all the food shopping in !

Just the 3 of us for the first time this year. Now the trauma of breaking the news is out of the way, I'm really, really, really looking forward to it.

IamInvisible · 21/12/2013 18:23

Since we dragged DS1(19) up the country on his first two Christmases to the InLaws and it was a nightmare, we have always done it 'just us'.

If I want to stay in my pyjamas till lunchtime, I can. When the kids were little, if they didn't want to eat, I didn't care. If they wanted to play, they could. Boxing Day, I usually get up, breakfast, shower, clean pyjamas and stay that way all day!

This year it is just me and the kids because DH is in the RAF and is away. We will do our own thing. It would have been nice to have been asked to go somewhere for the sentiment, but I wouldn't have gone.

Marne · 21/12/2013 18:50

Last year we had our first Christmas at home with no guests, it was so much more relaxed, so this year when we were invited to a relatives house we said 'no'. Its so much easier and much more relaxed with it just being us. Both my dd's have ASD and find going out quite stressful and they find having people over a bit overwhelming so staying at home alone makes things much easier Smile.

mumeeee · 21/12/2013 22:20

We always have Christmas day just for us.
