The need to clean the house from top to bottom before xmas!

Does anyone else experience this?

I've even cleaned the oven & defrosted freezer!
I know at some point on xmas eve i'll be annoying the family with the hoover, putting clean sheets on beds etc, all for the house to be covered in food, wrapping paper, pine needles and god knows how many spilt drinks the next day.

Oh yes. Every year I say I won't bother cleaning thoroughly until all the guests have gone but already this week I have cleaned the oven, the fridge, under all the appliances, scrubbed out the larder, Hoovered under all the beds, cleaned all the grouting with bleach and a toothbrush... I just can't help myself Grin

Oh fuck the fridge and the microwave.
I don't care, but my DM, DF and DSIS will judge.

Yes, I have defrosted freezer and cleaned oven (only happens once a year mind). But house is getting messy again already and can't keep it up for a whole week so sod it, I will fight the urge to clean otherwise will get grumpy with family messing it up and not really the Christmas spirit.

I don't have the urge but do need to do it. We have trades in (fitting our kitchen/new back door/plumbing etc) and they won't finish til Friday so I'm loath to do too much as it'll just get covered in dust again.
Spare room is immaculate tho as I cleaned it and barred entry until guests come.

I have tomorrow off work for a good blitz. I have arranged to take the DC visiting family on Friday purely so they can't destroy my work before guests arrive at the weekend.

Having seen what they've done to the sitting room in 1hr this morning, I'm not sure a whole day will be lng enough!!

I have Sunday earmarked for my scrubbing. If it was just us i wouldn't bother but my parents will judge and comment plus it could do with a deep clean. Put it off until Christmas eve the past two years and it really spoiled the day.

I washed the sitting room curtains yesterday Xmas Hmm
I have the fridge, cooker, bathroom tiles an a quick once over of the whole house still to do. I may also bath the dogs as they have been working the last few weekends and still have a vague aroma of muddy field about them.
I hope to be done by the weekend, guests arrive late Monday pm.

My fridge is full so I won't be cleaning it but I have changed the beds today and I need to clean the bathroom, which I will probably do again on Christmas Eve. I Hoover most days so I will definitely be doing that Christmas Eve. I think it's just a desire to make everything perfect for a perfect day!

Yup, after work today all the bathrooms will be cleaned and the bedrooms beautified. Tomorrows job will be kitchen/utility and Friday will see all the linens done as guests arrive Saturday. Living room/dining room and den are pretty OK so just a dust and hoover round by him indoors will do it.

I am a lazy bitch so the OvenMaster man came yesterday and sorted out the hob, grill pan and ovens! It looks so beautiful and sparkly clean!

My guests should count themselves lucky if they actually get a dinner on Xmas day, sod the cleaning!

Am I the only loon who cleans the fridge every week?

I will change all the beds on Monday (normally wouldn't get done till next fri) and I will tackle the ironing but other than that it is just normal day to day cleaning like woodwork etc that I would do anyway.

I just clean when it needs doing and/or when I get the chance atm. 4 month old getting in the way of proper cleaning routine!

Yep, a weekly fridge-cleaner here too :)

I go into overdrive when guests are coming. I do like to have a clean house for them. I am almost there - just got to shampoo a carpet tomorrow.

Have done every room in the house, finishing off with a 8 hour clean/clear out of the kitchen yesterday. I managed to fill 4 full binbags just from the kitchen but still don't seem to have any space Xmas Confused.

PhantomMenace · 18/12/2013 14:02

I cleaned the whole of upstairs yesterday, took me 4 hours and 5 bin bags full of crap to achieve. Today I did the kitchen, it does look fab but I don't expect it to last long. I shall tackle the living room and hallway tomorrow, I have to do it in bits thanks to SPD.

Just a quick hoover through before Christmas eve. Nothing done on Christmas eve that's when we go out for lunch with MIL her treat. Then just relax (or finish wrapping Wink ) in the evening.

I can't put up decorations in a messy house. Was in fact just contemplating washing the sofa covers.

But I am agog at normal cleaning like polishing woodwork! That is my try hard cleaning Grin

I am begging cleaners to come on Monday, they usually to Tuesdays but won't work Christmas Eve (can't blame them but would pay double/triple not to have to do it).
I am not mega lazy but they do better job of than me, and faster and I have so much cooking to

I really want to but find it difficult to get anything done with a 7 month old. She wants to roll and squeal and play. As long as the house is reasonably clean and tidy it doesn't matter, we're not hosting anyone. I do find a good clean so relaxing :( never mind...
