Does anyone else experience this?

I've even cleaned the oven & defrosted freezer!
I know at some point on xmas eve i'll be annoying the family with the hoover, putting clean sheets on beds etc, all for the house to be covered in food, wrapping paper, pine needles and god knows how many spilt drinks the next day.

LauraShigihara Wed 18-Dec-13 09:29:29

Oh yes. Every year I say I won't bother cleaning thoroughly until all the guests have gone but already this week I have cleaned the oven, the fridge, under all the appliances, scrubbed out the larder, Hoovered under all the beds, cleaned all the grouting with bleach and a toothbrush... I just can't help myself grin

NoComet Wed 18-Dec-13 09:31:24

Oh fuck the fridge and the microwave.
I don't care, but my DM, DF and DSIS will judge.

piratecat Wed 18-Dec-13 09:33:39

i know the hob and microwave need doing. how bloody boring is that.

hoover an a joss stick xmas eve will do. the house is always pretty tidy anyhow, just me and dd live here.

Yes, I have defrosted freezer and cleaned oven (only happens once a year mind). But house is getting messy again already and can't keep it up for a whole week so sod it, I will fight the urge to clean otherwise will get grumpy with family messing it up and not really the Christmas spirit.

wonkylegs Wed 18-Dec-13 09:38:56

I don't have the urge but do need to do it. We have trades in (fitting our kitchen/new back door/plumbing etc) and they won't finish til Friday so I'm loath to do too much as it'll just get covered in dust again.
Spare room is immaculate tho as I cleaned it and barred entry until guests come.

LieborCookin Wed 18-Dec-13 09:40:16

Yes! Oven is on my list, started in the bedrooms and cleared out bathroom!

BarHumbugBeasty Wed 18-Dec-13 09:58:57

I have tomorrow off work for a good blitz. I have arranged to take the DC visiting family on Friday purely so they can't destroy my work before guests arrive at the weekend.

Having seen what they've done to the sitting room in 1hr this morning, I'm not sure a whole day will be lng enough!!

TheHOHOHOnlyPink Wed 18-Dec-13 11:13:14

I have Sunday earmarked for my scrubbing. If it was just us i wouldn't bother but my parents will judge and comment plus it could do with a deep clean. Put it off until Christmas eve the past two years and it really spoiled the day.

BobCrotchstitch Wed 18-Dec-13 11:17:35

I washed the sitting room curtains yesterday fhmm
I have the fridge, cooker, bathroom tiles an a quick once over of the whole house still to do. I may also bath the dogs as they have been working the last few weekends and still have a vague aroma of muddy field about them.
I hope to be done by the weekend, guests arrive late Monday pm.

MummyPig24 Wed 18-Dec-13 11:36:49

My fridge is full so I won't be cleaning it but I have changed the beds today and I need to clean the bathroom, which I will probably do again on Christmas Eve. I Hoover most days so I will definitely be doing that Christmas Eve. I think it's just a desire to make everything perfect for a perfect day!

QueenofallIsee Wed 18-Dec-13 11:38:24

Yup, after work today all the bathrooms will be cleaned and the bedrooms beautified. Tomorrows job will be kitchen/utility and Friday will see all the linens done as guests arrive Saturday. Living room/dining room and den are pretty OK so just a dust and hoover round by him indoors will do it.

I am a lazy bitch so the OvenMaster man came yesterday and sorted out the hob, grill pan and ovens! It looks so beautiful and sparkly clean!

JRmumma Wed 18-Dec-13 11:42:48

My guests should count themselves lucky if they actually get a dinner on Xmas day, sod the cleaning!

ICanSeeTheSeaFromHere Wed 18-Dec-13 12:24:31

Am I the only loon who cleans the fridge every week?

I will change all the beds on Monday (normally wouldn't get done till next fri) and I will tackle the ironing but other than that it is just normal day to day cleaning like woodwork etc that I would do anyway.

BankerMommy2010 Wed 18-Dec-13 13:09:46

I do a thorough clean every week...Christmas is no exception!

BankerMommy2010 Wed 18-Dec-13 13:11:00

I clean mine every week. ..before I do the weekly shop I empty anything past its self by date and detol the fridge... is that not normal :-/

JRmumma Wed 18-Dec-13 13:13:56

I just clean when it needs doing and/or when I get the chance atm. 4 month old getting in the way of proper cleaning routine!

struggling100 Wed 18-Dec-13 13:16:51

Yep, a weekly fridge-cleaner here too smile

I go into overdrive when guests are coming. I do like to have a clean house for them. I am almost there - just got to shampoo a carpet tomorrow.

applejacket Wed 18-Dec-13 13:23:10

ha ha i do this every year blush

there is no bloody point grin

HedgehogsRevenge Wed 18-Dec-13 13:31:46

Have done every room in the house, finishing off with a 8 hour clean/clear out of the kitchen yesterday. I managed to fill 4 full binbags just from the kitchen but still don't seem to have any space fconfused.

PhantomMenace Wed 18-Dec-13 14:02:52

I cleaned the whole of upstairs yesterday, took me 4 hours and 5 bin bags full of crap to achieve. Today I did the kitchen, it does look fab but I don't expect it to last long. I shall tackle the living room and hallway tomorrow, I have to do it in bits thanks to SPD.

Aintnobodylovesnanbetter Wed 18-Dec-13 14:22:18

I've cleaned the oven but thats it so far oh and cleaned the fridge/freezer
Need to give dd's room a good tidy and clean but she has a friend coming over after school today and had one over yesterday so going to do it tomorrow
Will do the main clean over the weekend as i plan to finish my wrapping by tomorrow then do a food shop on friday and dh is away over the weekend so can get on and do it

mumeeee Wed 18-Dec-13 14:25:23

Just a quick hoover through before Christmas eve. Nothing done on Christmas eve that's when we go out for lunch with MIL her treat. Then just relax (or finish wrapping wink ) in the evening.

HumphreyCobbler Wed 18-Dec-13 14:30:00

I can't put up decorations in a messy house. Was in fact just contemplating washing the sofa covers.

But I am agog at normal cleaning like polishing woodwork! That is my try hard cleaning grin

Sleepstarved Wed 18-Dec-13 14:31:41

I am begging cleaners to come on Monday, they usually to Tuesdays but won't work Christmas Eve (can't blame them but would pay double/triple not to have to do it).
I am not mega lazy but they do better job of than me, and faster and I have so much cooking to
