Godson has asked Santa for one.

I have heard of them but thought they were expensive .... However looking tonight on web there appears to be tons of different ones (ok minor exaggeration) with massive cost difference.

He is 6. ... What is he really expecting ?

TIA

I've seen a target one which comes with a dart board. That might be a good choice

dc 6 has a handheld one (about £5) and a larger one (about £10) he loves both

My son wanted a small one from the supermarket. We had a big family debate about who would be shot with it to make sure they were ok for the kids. Grin

Buy lots of ammo as it will inevitably get shot into your neighbours gardens and never seen again.

My 5yr old was given a small hand held one and is now requesting a bigger, more powerful one for Christmas! Tesco have one that's 2 for £15 that looks alright for a 5yr old.
I would go for fairly simple and straightforward at this age - the massive ones that have a picture of a child holding them with 2 hands seem a bit much and my boys tend to swing things around and fling them at each other so a handheld one is perfect.

don't bend over in front of him once he gets one

Ideally one which fires a round before having to refill, as the single shot ones are a bit too slow for real fun!

Argos have a deal on this one with £10 off

or perhaps you could get him a pair so that when his friends come to play they have one each?

We got the ones that fire discs last year for our dts (4). There were discs under the tv, in my tea, down the loo, under the sofa....................you get the idea. We have lots of nerf guns and Argos nerf-alikes. They love a nerf war - especially if moving of furniture and turning lights off is involved.

If it's a 'dart' one rather than disks, make sure that he doesn't leave it full (empty out the bullets after each use, maybe give him a little box to put them in) as they can get stuck and block the gun if they're left in for a while.
