What's still on your Christmas 'To Do' List?(83 Posts)
All you organised people will be saying "Nothing. The presents are bought and wrapped. The food is on order"
But for mortals .....
I will rule out doing anything on days I'm at work because I'm useless after work. Get home, feed people, tidy up. That's it.
But still outstanding....
Haircut (desperately needs done)
Then hair dye (at home. I cannot be doing with paying £££ )
Costco shop to buy drinks, beer, washing powder, binbags, a huge tinned Panatonne
Last minute IKEA trip (mid week. It's Hell at weekends)
Taking DD out Saturday (cinema /shopping with one of her friends). I can wander about.
Cashing up the £2 jar (Family tradition)
Taking the DC and DH out on Sunday (maybe my DS will buy me a present )
Big Sainsburys shop (DS/DD will see that Harry Hill film)
London on the 21st
Make marzipan and decorate cake
Make chocolate crispy wreath and chocolate house (mine won't eat gingerbread )
Wrap all the presents (might do this on Fri 13th if I can be trusted with scissors)
Put up the rest of the decorations (got the tree up)
DD has something on at school in the last week (Dance)
Last minute run round Waitrose - just because it's there
A Twitch Trip to M&S and Lakeland possibly on the 19th after work (my last work day before Christmas. Late night isn't too busy)
I thought I was organised but this seems like a mammoth task .
In no particular order:
Marzipan & ice a small Christmas cake
Wrap the last few of the DC's presents
Put the tree up (waiting for DD1 to come home)
Make a chocolate chestnut torte and freeze it
Buy DH's present
when he tells me what he wants
Write and post the cards - I refuse to do this until we have the first couple of cards from rellies through the post
Make stuffing and freeze it
DS's carol concert on the last day of term
Trip to Waitrose - novelty value only I usually shop in Morrison's/Tesco
Church nativity play on Christmas Eve
Finish unpacking boxes from our move last week
get husband gifts
finish wrapping gifts
Present for my mum, she has nothing. NOTHING. I'm still on a quest to find a smallish grey leather handbag but I'm failing miserably.
Stocking presents for dh.
Couple of friends left to buy for.
And I need to wrap it all. <weeps>
Also need a haircut and to buy something new to wear for me and ds. Not sure when that's going to happen tbh. Probably won't get a hair appointment now anyway, will just have to look hideous as usual.
Make presents to send to Australia... yeah, I realise they're going to be late. Oops.
Finish making Christmas cards. Don't send many, so not a mammoth task.
LO is young, there's just the three of us, no huge food shops to do, no huge parties/family shindigs to go to.
Oh, snd the tree etc is going up on Friday. Yay!
Marzipan and ice cake
Try and find smart trousers to fit chubby 11 year old ds so he doesn't wear trackie bottoms on Christmas day
Write letter to go in cards for elderly rellies.
Rest is done pretty much
What have I got left to do? Everything. It's only the 8th!
Flipping heck I was reading these thinking, yes must get a cake, go to school performances, send some e-cards before my Jaquie Lawson expires, do a food shop, and then I saw Hobbes8's post and it kind of dwarfs everything else!
Good luck with that
Haircut if I can get an appointment.
Marzipan & ice cake.
Make sausage rolls & mince pies.
Make about 8lb of fudge to give as part of various people's presents.
I remember about 6 weeks ago that I decided to do one job around the house each week in the lead up to Christmas. Things like 'clear out all wardrobes', 'tackle cupboard under the stairs', all those horrible jobs you put off. I now realise I haven't yet started my quest and there's only 2 more weeks of school for the DDs. Shit.
So to answer your question, I still have pretty much everything to do. DP ordered the meat last week though. No tree up, many presents still to buy and wrap, dunno really, just loads!
Ha! Thanks Gladvent. The good thing about it is that no one has any expectations of me this Christmas. I certainly won't be making my own marzipan this year. (Or any year)
mumslife have u had any success? Can't even get jeans to fit - all cut for skinny little!
lads. Ds is already 5 foot 5, size 6 shoes and is an all round big lad. Sick of seeing him in joggers but can't find trousers to fit.
(My PFB was 14 yesterday. I remember people asking me "What if he hangs on till Christmas/ Millenium"
No way . He was meant to be a Nov 30th so by the 7th he'd already lollygaggged an extra week.
And I had Chris Tarrant (Capital Radio) counting down the days .................
Good Luck with the move and the baby.
This year was going to be the year I had bought and wrapped all presents by the end of November. By mid Nov I had got the majority and relaxed a bit. It's now only 12 days until the kids break up from school and I'm starting to panic about everything I still have to do
- buy the remaining presents, mostly for adults though, and wrap everything.
-will start on wrapping tomorrow while kids are at school and aim to get it all done by the end of the week.
-order food. I have a Tesco slot reserved with pringles and sausage rolls, but family will probably be expecting a little something more for christmas dinner
-shopping trip to local big town. I hate real life shopping with a passion, but there are some things that I can't/don't want to get online.
-put up the tree and the rest of the lights and decorations, also need to get a poinsettia for the window.
-make mince pies and gingerbread house with the DC. Problem here is DC's schedules are fully booked the next 2 weekends already and also quite a few after school events coming up too.
-organise transport/attendance for a myriad of extra curricular outings for the DC (see above) DD is in a choir so has numerous carol concerts plus brownie/scout/school christmas party, christmas swimming gala (why oh why?) and 2 separate pantomines. Then there's the school nativity plays, christmas lunches and christmas jumper day too!
-finish decluttering the house. Only kitchen and bathroom to go now. Oven needs a good clean out too as there is a faint whiff of cheese every time it heats up
God that list is massive and there's probably more I haven't thought of yet <adds get off MN and do some work to list>
Homemade marzipan is much easier and scrummier than packet stuff. I make it a bit softer so it's easier to roll out and forgives the lumpiness of the cake.
(It does have raw egg though so not to everyones tastes. Extra Amarretto - purely as a preservative- sorts that out)
wrap all presents.
send cards to europe and uk tomorrow.
buy postboxes for gift to europe tomorrow.
buy a tree on friday (we chop one down at local place)
get car tyres checked and a new one i think.
find some shoes to go with a dress, i have been to two shopping towns in two days and found nothing. help.
buy gifts for last few people.
dye my hair
oh food, we need food too.
Make biscuits and mince pies.
Make soup and freeze.
I seem to have gained another couple around the Christmas table. Which is brilliant and makes us really happy ( really). I need to borrow chairs and cutlery. AIBU to ask them to bring their own cutlery, napkins, chairs, plates etc?
Wrap the rest of presents
Travel 2 towns away delivering cards , seeing people before Christmas
Take my mums husband tesco to get his Christmas booze
finish buying gifts
write and send cards
get dd to write her name in a zillion cards for school (she is 4! it will take ages!!)
oh good grief I have loads to do and not got much free time until I finish work on the 20th!!oooops!!
Hobbes good luck with the move & the baby!
I thought I'd been really organised this year but I'm stressing already.
Still got to:
Write 30 cards for DS's pre school class
Buy stamps and post relatives cards, hand deliver local ones
Make DS stocking (I'm horrendous at sewing so that should be fun)
Wrap sisters and DSs stocking presents
Paint teachers cards with DS
Take him ice skating/to the circus/to see Santa
Wrap last few presents
Find something to wear on Xmas day
Not really an awful list but it's enough!
I'm rubbish at homemade marzipan. It doesn't roll out into a liftable sheet so I end up just chucking chunks on and smoothing it together.
I need some stocking fillers and a couple of pressies for dh
Plaster the cake
Help dd with making sweets for her friends (no idea what sweets to make though, did fudge last year)
I'm feeling like its manageable this year, really chilled about it.
-Wrap all presents
-Write and send all cards
-Empty spare bedroom, strip wallpaper, build two wardrobes and have that room and DS' room re-carpetted
-Wash all baby clothes and bedding
-Finish packing hospital bag for me, DH and for DS to take to grandparents
-Xmas decs up (tree went up today)
-hair cut (Tuesday)
-oh, and have baby. Preferably not on one of the days I have other plans.
