I'm thinking 1 December this year?

JollyScaryGiant Fri 18-Oct-13 13:30:43

Probably the 21st or 22nd this year. Would prefer to do it earlier but the 14th is too early and it has to be a weekend.

We get a real tree.

Meglet Fri 18-Oct-13 13:37:00

Usually 21st / 22nd Dec. Comes down on New Years day as I get fed up with it hogging space.

MamaBear17 Fri 18-Oct-13 13:39:23

We also have a real tree. We have it up for a month. It comes down on the 2nd of January, the most depressing day of the year imo!

Mrspebble Fri 18-Oct-13 13:48:08

I don't put on up.. Just fairy light etc.. Might this year though as have a baby now. But not until 12 days before christmas.

First weekend in December, but it comes down the day after Boxing Day as I'm sick of it by then!

Christmas Eve, 'tis the Twelve Days of Christmas after all.

Twitterqueen Fri 18-Oct-13 14:07:09

I love that so many people are saying 1st December! I've always been considered odd for doing it so early (always the 1st weekend in Dec). But I love Christmas (even though I'm knocking on a bit) and I love the tree - always a real one. I don't care if it's dropping needles and desperate by 6th night - I love coming down the stairs in the dark mornings and switching on the lights....

I sort of feel like it's all about the build up to Christmas, post Boxing Day I'm ready for it all to be over smile

Christmas eve, it's a family(and visiting friends) event, we do it over the afternoon, followed by a lovely meal, the presents go under it after all children have gone to bed, so it a lovely surprise in the morning.

Elsiequadrille Fri 18-Oct-13 14:19:16

Christmas Eve ideally. But will probably, for practical purposes, be two or three days before Christmas instead. Playroom tree is decorated a week or so before Christmas.

everlong Fri 18-Oct-13 14:22:10

Normally about the 10th.

It comes down on the 2nd.

MrsOakenshield Fri 18-Oct-13 14:23:12

mid December, I like it to be up for DD's birthday (18th).

didn't the tradition used to be that it went up on Christmas Eve? Hate them being up too early, I think it really dilutes Christmas.

Elsiequadrille Fri 18-Oct-13 14:23:30

What's this 12 days before Christmas thing? Not related to the 12 days of Christmas ending on the Epiphany?

Elsiequadrille Fri 18-Oct-13 14:25:43

We're celebrating Yule too, Eating.

willyoulistentome Fri 18-Oct-13 14:30:10

Usually the weekend before the weekend before Chrsitmas, as that's when we can go and get it. I take it down on 12th night.

WangoFandango Fri 18-Oct-13 14:38:23

About a week before. But I still feel anything before 23rd December is a bit ITV grin.

iloveholidays Fri 18-Oct-13 14:42:39

we're definitely putting up decorations on 1st this year and I reckon we'll do tree too.

want to make a day of it with elf coming and advent calendar as well smile

Chewbecca Fri 18-Oct-13 14:44:01

I'm also going to have to have a check because of Crossstich's comment because I was about to say that DS's birthday is 6 December so never before then, normally the Sunday after.

Nix01 Fri 18-Oct-13 14:45:23

Oh yes, Iloveholidays, the Elf and Advent calendars are arriving on 1 December too

NoMoreMarbles Fri 18-Oct-13 14:47:18
