I'm thinking 1 December this year?

Floralnomad Fri 18-Oct-13 11:13:55

The first weekend of December .

Nix01 Fri 18-Oct-13 11:18:51

1 December is a Sunday this year :D

TheOnlyPink Fri 18-Oct-13 11:19:25

I used to put it up on the 8th of Dec, but that's now ds2 birthday, so it will be the 9th!

bundaberg Fri 18-Oct-13 11:21:57

prob the week before christmas

DitsyDonkey Fri 18-Oct-13 11:24:22

The first of Decmeber, we get to enjoy the cosy twinklyness of it for longer then!

CrotchStitch Fri 18-Oct-13 11:35:25

As a child we always waited till after my birthday (14th) I always wanted it up earlier but my DM had some half baked notion that it should wait until after hmm
We always have a real tree so unless it is rooted we usually aim for the second weekend in December so it has a fair chance of making Twelfth Night. If I had an artificial I would be screwing it together at the end if November grin

The day before the longest night.

Around two weeks before Christmas day, no pressure here from DC (or anyone else for that matter.) I often put up the tree to let it fluff out a bit and decorate it the next day. I do the other decorations (some lit) etc the same day as putting up the tree so that we have something other than just a bare tree.

Will be the 1st of Dec this year as its a Sunday, have booked the day off work especially smile

WaitMonkey Fri 18-Oct-13 12:42:10

First weekend of December usually. Not long now.

AuntieStella Fri 18-Oct-13 12:44:08

We have a family birthday mid-Dec. So the next convenient time after that.

CackleCackle Fri 18-Oct-13 12:53:47

I like to put it up December 1st. I love the twinkliness!

wheredidiputit Fri 18-Oct-13 12:56:44

I do mine the night of the 30th Nov so it's up when the dc get up in the morning. Normally one of Santa's Elves leave their advent calendars under the tree.

MamaBear17 Fri 18-Oct-13 13:00:36

Usually the 1st of December, but this year we are going on a special Santa train ride so will do it on the 30th.

Bunbaker Fri 18-Oct-13 13:03:01

The week before Christmas. If I put it up any earlier I would be itching to take it down by Boxing Day. I can't stand the faff and the clutter.

RevelsRoulette Fri 18-Oct-13 13:04:39

When I get sick of the kids asking when we're going to put the tree up.

EatingAllTheCrumpets Fri 18-Oct-13 13:08:23

Around the 1st of December, we celebrate both Yule and Christmas so DH likes the tree up and decorated a while before I start doing my Yule prep.

SuperMuddle Fri 18-Oct-13 13:11:28

A week to 10 days before Christmas. Any earlier and it just becomes part of the furniture by the time it gets to Christmas, IMHO.

When I was growing up the tree would always go up no earlier than the weekend before Christmas, but since I moved out I like to put it up slightly earlier, as I never spend Christmas at home, always with parents or in laws. That way I get to enjoy it a little longer!

MistressIggi Fri 18-Oct-13 13:11:40

2 weeks before Christmas.

MistressIggi Fri 18-Oct-13 13:16:09

For interest - Christmas Eve till Epiphany seems to be the "traditional" Catholic approach though that would originally have been with real, candle lit trees so maybe best not to have up too long!
I certainly enjoy the tree more in the run up to Christmas than in the aftermath, so would rather have it up earlier and down earlier.

BearsBeetsBattlestarGalactica Fri 18-Oct-13 13:17:01

That is interesting CrotchStich My DD's birthday is on the 17th so I have always waited til the next day just to separate her birthday from christmas.

I shall ask her if she wants it up before then.

fanoftheinvisibleman Fri 18-Oct-13 13:18:59

Usually about 3 weeks before.

I depressed myself with the tree last year though. Ds wanted to go mental with it and I retained co-ordinated control. A week before xmas I was sat looking at it with all its silver and gold and remembered the trees 70's childhood where we were allowed tat. I felt really upset for ds so this year we are going to the range and he can fill his boots with as much mismatched tat and tinsel that £25 will get him grin. I have even promised flashing coloured lights shock grin We are putting the soul and fun back it our tree!
