How many people do you buy for?

I just counted up (everyone I can remember) and dh and I buy for , not including our own two dcs and each other , 12 kids (>14) and 13 adults

I think that's an awful lot . What's your number ?

Too many!Of the top of my head I think it's 14 adults and 8 kids excluding dh and our 2 children.Finished most of it now though-think just 7 adults and a few extra selection boxes to get (add these to bulk up little gifts!).

About half of them kids. Thank god for the Christmas thread or I would start to panic right about now. We usually do it all in December but this year I started putting away in July.

Among my parents, siblings and their spouses, we buy one family present - names out of hat, then give and receive one adult gift for our agreed price of £50. I cannot recommend this highly enough in terms of saving time and cost and accumulation of useless Stuff.

The children get presents from everyone.

I try to stick to buying for children instead of the adults, but two close friends don't have children and they are very into present buying which is sweet.

18 or so children (I need to do a re-count as a few more have been born this year), all under 6 and on whom I attempt to spend no more than £5 each through use of 3 for 2, half price offers etc. Of these children, at least 12 of them have birthdays between October and January and I also buy them birthday presents and spend around £10. Its an expensive business. BUT the parents of these children get presents for my DC and, over the years, these have been some of my DC's favourite toys, books etc so I think its worth it!

I should also say that I like having so many people to buy for as, for a couple of years in my late 20s/early 30s when I was single and all of my friends were getting married or in long term relationships & were either having babies of their own or nephews, nieces or godchildren I found it really depressing that I only had my parents, brother and gran to buy for and their presents could be bought in a half hour swoop on a large M&S followed by another half hour on amazon.

We do have other family and friends but we don't really bother with presents for each other as we seem to have an unwritten agreement! That's fine by me, saves money and stress all round.

Family (Mid): My parents and brother
Family (Cheaper): Grandparents and My aunt - a joint family present for her.

With friends, we tend to just buy for the children.
So, I do the three children of my oldest friend from school (one is my godson).

Two children of other friends (my guide children)

Some friends of the family, who buy for my children.

A joint family present for another friend of mine.

Teachers etc

This year, just my Mam and Dad, usually a joint household present and sometimes the cost split with my sister. My sister, her partner and my gorgeous niece. The cats get nothing, they don't know it's Christmas, they are cats.

We cut back a couple of years ago, so only buy for the nieces and nephews and not my siblings.
I still have 12 adults and 5 children to buy for, plus DH and my own 3 DCs.
That's only immediate family - no friends, neighbours, teachers etc.
DH buys each of his staff a small gift, but nothing significant, and I buy a secret santa gift for work.

I quite like shopping but really don't enjoy doing present shopping for DH's family - his SIL is a pain to buy for, as are his parents, and he is hopeless at coming up with suggestions for them. I've been with him 13 years this Christmas and still have no idea what his mother actually likes.

Just buy for immediate family so 4 kids (under 3 yrs old) and 7 adults. DHs side of the family have Dec bdays as well.

WHY ??? Christmas is surely not about 'buying' for people ! Family time /shared experiences/ relaxing ......just get something token for kids IN YOUR OWN home. This must cause a huge financial burden - it's hideous and unwise. Wish everyone else a happy xmas and give big hug instead - donate 10% of your previous massive outlay to charity.
