What do you do boxing day?

Boxing day is always a bit boring in my opinion....just wondering how you spend yours? Inspire me!

Boxing day is about NOT getting dressed till at least 2pm then Turkey, chips and mushy peas for tea....more wine and then out in the evening to visit family and friends and have more wine and chocolate!

Get up early, pack and drive 100 miles to visit ILs. . Love them to bits, but hate this tradition and for a complex web of reasons there is no getting out of it. Would love to stay at home and go the next day.

Christmas Day is spent with just us. Boxing Day is family get together, board games, dads gnts, Christmas cake, port n Stilton.....

My parents have all extended family (and usually some randoms) for amazing buffet lunch (food even better than Christmas!) lots of nice people to talk to! It's the best bit!!

(Especially this year as we're doing Christmas at ours for the ILs.)

A long walk with the dog in the morning then we spend the afternoon celebrating Christmas all over again, often with extended family.

My ILs aren't very sociable. We see (my side) family xmas day...

My parents and PILs come over. If they are around my brother, my sister and her DH (and now baby) or DH's brother/SIL and nieces come too.
They show up around 1-2pm and stay all afternoon/evening. We eat and drink, maybe go for a walk, etc.
We spend Christmas Day just the three of us (through choice) so Boxing Day is our family day.

I love Boxing Day! Huge family party at my parents house, fizz, buffet, stupid party games. Lots of local family popping in for an hour.

We either go to Fountains Abbey (national trust place) or into the dales for a walk and then a pub early evening meal. And if it rains a rerun of Xmas day. Mind you I do think we are going to the panto on Boxing Day this year, must check that!

Wake up and celebrate that I have survived Christmas.

Older DC/nieces/nephews who can cook make Boxing Day lunch (as there's 4 of an old enough age, this isn't slavery...) and get a takeaway for a late later supper after visiting places or going to the beach or whatever. Just relaxing,

Sweet F.A we play with toys and games, lounge around, munch and go to the shop if needed :)

My mum used to force the Christmas period to be perfect and it never was, as an adult I've always kept it casual - we all enjoy it I think a lot more than we would if we had relations visiting/expecting us to etc.

Last year we had my parents visit (it was actually a last minute thing) and just mooches around. This year my parents are coming for the 25th instead so I guess we will probably just be the four of us.

Either way, it's just mooching, eating what remains of the yummy food (leftover turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayo in a baguette - food of the gods I tell you! I actually look forward to it more than the Xmas dinner itself... I may get a bit Ross Geller over 'My Sandwich' :o), carrying on playing with whatever games and toys arrived, watching DVDs we got as presents etc.

A couple of times I have actually gone to the sales (not massively, just boots when DH worked there and got a discount, and upstairs in tesco if we were there for food) but it's not something I plan into the day and probably won't do it again.

Jimjams for hours, light lunch, walk on beach, enjoy new toys, read new books, watch new films. Maybe invite ILs round this year for dinner (fil, sil and bil) which would be a heavier meal than lunch. Possibly a boardgame or play some cards.

Oh, also skype in the morning with Australia and UK families, if we hadn't done it Christmas day.

Horse racing!! Love Boxing Day!

Boxing Day is my dbil birthday. He has no family apart from us so we tend to have a day of watching horse racing, then back to ours for part time.

Boxing day is grim. MIL loves to have all the family round for a big meal. This was ok when dhs brothers had children all the same age and we didn't have any (so could kill the horror with wine).
Now the other children are all 17+ and we have a 7 year old. No one wants to play with him and they want to watch 15+ films etc.
And MILs food is grim - grey veg and recooked meat.

They won't change either.

That's exactly the scenario we have CMOT, except the teens just sit around fiddling with their phones. Food is grim. It's also the fact that it's too far to go for the day so we have to pack up and stay for a couple of days too, would be a lot easier if it was nearer.

Ours do that too WhoKnows. Previously, dh and I had to go and stay for days and that was awful.
What really grates is that dh and I did a lot of entertaining of the children when there were 5 of them under 5, but when our ds arrived everyone had run out of enthusiasm for children, and apparently any thought about what was appropriate.

We tried suggesting moving dinner to someone elses house or having a buffet, but no, we have to be there by 11, eat at 2 and finish eating at 5. Oh, and everyone else bogs off to the pub between 12 and 1 leaving me and ds in the house as the pub isn't child friendly.

Homemade curry (NOT TURKEY ) & all the family down for a get together, which we don't do on Christmas Day for various reasons.

Usually a massive 'lazy' extension of Christmas for us. We often meet up with my brother, SIL and kids. We operate a strict lounge wear/pajamas rule (I've been known to turn up in fluffy new dressing gown one year!). Spend the day eating chocolate and sweets, exchanging more presents. Lunch is usually lovely roast turkey, stuffing, etc from Christmas day with some easy bake at home baguettes. Play some of the board games that the kids received that year. Then dinner once the kids are all asleep is a massive platter of cheese, biscuits, nibbles and lots of champagne/wine. I love it nearly as much as I do Christmas Day.

I always find boxing day a bit depressing to be honest. The house is always a bomb site after Christmas, toys and boxes everywhere. We usually don't get dressed until midday. I imagine it'll be DS1 charging around the house with his new toys, getting annoyed with DS2 for getting in the way or daring to touch his new toys. Poor DS2 will probably follow his beloved big brother around dotingly.

Actually I need to plan something for us to do in the day. DS1 is now 6 so at quite a nice age for playing board games, reading etc. Disney DVDs usually come out on Boxing day. DS2 will be 2 the day before Christmas Eve so it's a special time for him and hopefully he'll be happy enough with his presents so may not harass DS1 quite so much! We'll probably all go for a plod around the woods with the dog at some point. Then in the evening we all trek up the hill to visit MIL who is lovely and that will be something nice for the boys. They love their Nanna and will be excited to show her a few of their new toys.

We always go to the racing at Kempton Park. Great atmosphere and gets us out of the house . Would go racing anywhere in the country to be honest as we love it. Would do a country walk if not racing as feel a very strong need to get out of the house and blow the cobwebs away!
