Thanks to you guys, I've been on a homemade gift roller coaster, but have now settled on making this Arancello!

I have been and bought the kilner bottles today and I have bought some of the bits I need to get going! I can't wait.

Anyways thought I would share the recipe!

Ooh! That looks lovely Julia, thanks very much, definitely going to give it a shot.

I've costed it out at about £4.50 per 250 ml without the bottle, so very reasonable too!

Ooooh thank YOU

I'm looking forward to trying this one

Actually, I've just bought the vanilla pods from amazon, a great bargain. £8.25 for 20! Much better than a pound each from tesco!

<thumbs up>

(Not thumbs aloft Paul McBoring style though <sweats>)

Ooh, that does look lovely.

OddBoots Thu 05-Sep-13 08:40:04

where did you get you bottles from if you don't mind me asking?

OddBoots Thu 05-Sep-13 08:40:17

*your bottles

DoItTooJulia Thu 05-Sep-13 08:53:50

Not at all. Sima warehouse. If you look online it's the cheapest place for kilner bottles. Luckily I have one a couple of miles away, so easy enough to get to!

OddBoots Thu 05-Sep-13 08:59:16

Thank you. smile

About 5 years ago my dh (then dp) was away for 8 months so i filled my time making mega Christmas hampers for all family. I made the spiced arencello. I think it was a bit disappointing, tbh, and not as nice as limoncello. Sorry. It was the low point of the hamper. sad

Nooooo lalala not listeninnnnnnnnng

cheekycherryza Thu 05-Sep-13 14:24:53

Thanks for the recipe I have got to try this!

DoItTooJulia Thu 05-Sep-13 14:32:35

Huh? Not nice?

I will do a trial batch in that case!

Rowboat Thu 05-Sep-13 16:08:41

grin Anne
It honestly could've been me, but i think it was a bit bitter. My family were polite about it, but I could tell, particularly as they were so enthusiastic about everything else. Especially the chilli jam! Definitely worth a practice batch, though wink

I made this recipe a couple of years ago. It was ok - nothing special - but I made more of it than we needed as gifts and about 18 months later came across the leftover arancello and had a wee swig to see if it was time to chuck it out. Wow! All I can say is it needs more than the few weeks the recipe stipulates to just settle down and get to know itself after you bottle it up. Then it is fab smile

So, to update, I have a test batch steeping.

With the leftover oranges I have made orange squash. Will let you know how it tastes and if it's ok, I'll post the recipe!
