Looking a bit of inspiration really. DC's are 4yo DS and 2yo DD. Don't want to be buying loads of toys as such as we have a toy cupboard full so thinking along the line of things they can collect/add to. So far we have got DS lots of Lego that we got half price in Argos. We got a ton of it so he's pretty much sorted but stuck for DD. We have got her the playmobil school and the take along dolls house. I know she's a bit young but I'm hoping she'll grow into it.

Any ideas for a 2.5 DD and what are your DC's getting?

DS is 4

Disney infinity (don't know if it is any good but he is adamant this is what he would like santa to bring).
Playmobil police car
Superman playset
Other superman bits and bobs
Couple of books/dvds

Ds is 2 in December. For birthday/Christmas he's getting:
Weebles tree (bought in a sale in April!!)
Pull-along trolley thing with dustpan and brush, mop and bucket (I've seen them for a tenner)
Multi-coloured fabric snake, about 2ft long, with a loop of ribbon for a tongue so he can run around trailing it (homemade; made one for nephew last year and he LOVES it).

That's it from us, don't know what he's getting from GPs (it's a bit early for them to be planning!).

DS (will be 2.8) - we'll give him some more track, trains etc for his wooden railway set and I'm looking out for a large lorry type toy. For his stocking I've already got some books and art stuff and some matchbox planes.
DD (will be 9 mths) - I've found a gorgeous second hand handmade wooden dolls cradle ($25!) and I've made a new mattress and quilt for it. Her stocking will consist of things she'll need that I would have to buy anyway like a new sippy cup, little cutlery etc. But I am going to get her a new bubble machine as ours has broken.

Getting my eldest dd1 & dd2 a laptop between them both costing around £250, and obviously some stocking fillers and one small toy each.

Am flabbergasted babies are getting hundreds of pounds worth of 'stuff' spent them. Why the hell does a 23 month old need a tablet? Shit! Why not spend that money on a cultural activity or quality family time or better yet donate it to a children's hospice or other worthy charity.

Kids really, truly don't need so much stuff. Kids with crap they don't even need/want/play with grow up with little imagination or gratitude.

Some of the lists on here are great, others I am quite shocked at.

DS will be 5, DD will be 2

They're getting a joint water table for the garden (we live in California!) and then just bits and pieces, prob more Lego for DS, and books.

They have their birthdays a month before Christmas so will get bigger individual presents then (a bike for DD and I idea yet for DS)

DD will undoubtedly get clothes as she a toddler and won't remember anyway

attheendoftheday Mon 29-Jul-13 23:20:31

frisson I remember it, it's all for me really. It makes me happy and it doesn't do any harm. Plus dd1 would think it odd if dd2 didn't get anything.

CherryMonster Mon 29-Jul-13 21:44:40

all four dc's are getting a 3ds and game. they will be nearly 15, 12, nearly 9 and nearly 8. other than that i have no idea at all.

Had to do a double take on this thread!! Sadly I think I'm doomed. There's a new XBOX and a new Playstation out just before Christmas I believe blush

xalyssx Mon 29-Jul-13 21:31:31

frissonpink Mon 29-Jul-13 20:59:34

Seriously??! ! People spend this much on babies???!! Why?! They don't remember it.

RhondaJean Mon 29-Jul-13 20:49:58

DD1 will squeal VERY loudly when she opens her ticket to go and watch Russell Howard live.

DD2 has decided that she wants a real live lamb, or she will stop believing in Father Christmas.

NeverTooManyCats Mon 29-Jul-13 13:16:33

so far I've ordered a Caillou dress up doll for my DD (2.5) from Amazon, i have in my save for later list - princess dress up peg puzzle (melissa and doug), a duplo set - creative cakes, an angelina ballerina christmas dvd (nutcracker sweet) and a big peppa pig cuddly toy.

For my DS (5 in aug) nothing yet, he starts school this year so I'm going to just wait and see what he asks for, got his birthday to get for first!

Kelly281 Mon 29-Jul-13 13:07:08

starjules I've had to order it new from a seller on ebay. Cost once converted from USD is around £195. I'm expecting a VAT receipt when it comes into the country on top of that. It's a bit pricey, but it's by far the best looking dolls house I've found and being Fisher Price I know it'll be durable/played with.

curiousgeorgie Mon 29-Jul-13 12:35:39

DD1 will be 3 and we're getting her two Sylvanian families houses, some furniture, a couple of families & a car. A Sofia The First costume, jewellery, tiara and shoes. Some Sofia pjs, puzzle & the little set of figures from the Disney store. A plush Mr Smee, Micheal, John & Wendy from Peter Pan (she's obsessed with them and this will complete her set - except for Nana! Can't find a nana anywhere!) I was going to get her a leap pad but I've been told that if she already plays with an iPad (mine, not hers!) then it will just be a step down. Other than that I'm looking for inspiration on this thread wink

And my DD2 will be 6 months exactly on Christmas Day so probably just have a trip to the toys r us baby aisle and fill the trolley with anything 6 months plus that she hasn't already inherited from DD1!

buzzgirly Mon 29-Jul-13 07:07:11

My dd will be 5 at Christmas, and ds will be almost 2. I was planning the leapfrog reader thing for dd, and some rollerskates. She is already asking for a VIP pet and a pair of pop up slippers!

For ds I was thinking of a tractor/car for the garden. He loves animals so was thinking of getting a fur real puppy as a real puppy is out of the question!

YY star this is The Christmas Thread so we will all feel free to discuss Christmas.

(I said the same last year. I don't go onto the Chicken Keepers thread and say "But I hate chickens....waaaaaaahh" )

My DC will be 14 and 11.6.
They will get nice pants and an orange (each, I'm not Scrooge)

Probably money or Gift Vouchers . DS got a £50 note that he kept till May then I put it in his bank account.

DD will get Claires/ Primark gift vouchers (clothes and girlie things are her passion)

starjules Sun 28-Jul-13 21:34:40

FourGates, can I politely add that this is the Christmas thread and its July!

Just googled the Fisher Price home for the holidays house, it looks amazing. That would be just perfect.

Think I will look into some Duplo and a Playmobil farm/zoo with plenty of animals.
