White Choc/Cranberry Fudge with Cheap Chocolate

Hi everyone,

I made this fudge last Christmas and it was a huge success. I am going to make more but instead of doing what I did last year and buying the good chocolate, I have in stock numerous bars of cheap Sainsburys Basics white chocolate.

Has anyone used this type of chocolate before and does it work as well? Thanks! Xmas Smile

Milk and dark chocolates vary hugely in their cocoa content and this affects what you can and can't do with them and how they taste. White chocolate is largely cocoa fat not solids and cheap as chips white is not substantially different from expensive in terms of what you can do with it. It tastes different because of the amount and quality of other ingredients but since you are cooking it with other lovely flavoursome things anyway it really doesn't make any difference if you use the cheap stuff. I have made the bbc good food website one the last few years with baileys and white choc and just added cranberries to their recipe and the cheap choc worked a treat. Happy stirring!

I use the sainsbos basic chic for all my Xmas baking and it's all come out lovely, I don't make fudge though.

Thank you all. This is my second batch this Christmas and the first was so so expensive to make.

I can make a larger quantity if I use the cheap basic chocolate.

I made it with sainsbury basic choc, wa no different to with the fancy white choc. Was yummy!

How long will the fudge keep for once made?
I'm also planning on making some to take to family next weekend but not sure if its too early?

I usually freeze fudge and it keeps a long time. I'm not sure how long in the fridge or at room temperature could someone enlighten us?

If using white chocolate I go for G&B's. If using dark then I get a nice 85 % coco solids and a savers dark chocolate bar make. It actually works out fine.

For anyone wondering, I made it with 10 bars of white basics chocolate (minus a few pieces Wink) and it worked out very well. The only difference I found was it didn't melt so easily so there were a few lumps I had to deal with but that wasn't a problem really. I'd use it again.
