where to buy smoked salmon and stollen?

That's it, really. Need to feed about 70. Looking for both - they need to be nice, and not ridiculously expensive (Sainsb stollen is more than £4 each this year...) Have just got both to try from lidl, which is definitely cheaper, but haven't tasted them yet. Any other ideas?

Lidl.

I bet the pack of stollen is gone within the hour Wink (if you're anything like me!)

You can get a big pack of smoke salmon from Costco for I think about £11-12 approx. we use to get 2 packs for around 20 people each with generous helpings and there were always about a third left.

Cheaper than the usual supermarket. Have not bought stollen cake there but they do sell them.

The Aldi smoked salmon is delicious, highly recommended. It's about £2.79 for a 200g pack ( I think). Not sure about the stollen, not tried it yet

I;ve bought the stollen from costco, it is very nice. they do boxes of stollen bites which would be perfect for a party.

both from lidl.
the lidl stollen is a close to the real thing you can get without flying to germany imo.

ok so lidl stollen it is - have tried it now (several slices...)

smoked salmon is not so good though, really really flabby. how do you get a costco card? might be worth investigating that.

anywhere else? morrisons? (I never go there, but there's one not too far away)

Morrisons own smoked salmon is not too bad either, I know what you mean about the flabby stuff...

Aldi Stollen is also very good - but then both Lidl and Aldi are German supermarkets and they tend to sell German Stollen so it's "proper" if that makes sense.

If I want anything German (lived there until recently) then I go to Aldi as first choice, then Lidl.

The Spey Valley smoked salmon from Morrison's came top of a tasting in the Ft magazine last year-you can still find the results if you google (can't link sorry). It is good but i've not seen it recently. All stores had their seasonal Xmas deliveries yesterday so I'm trying again soon.

Agree Aldi smoked salmon is horrible - fine for quiche etc but not palatable on its own.
