Should I set an RSVP deadline for xmas day?

I am having up to 13 people for xmas day. Have also just invited DB's new Bil and Mil as this will make it logistically easier for DB, I suspect.

My inlaws have also (today)invited my extended family to their place on boxing day.

Although my mil and I are trying to be laid back about xmas, it's not really in our nature as we like to plan ahead.

Would it be reasonable to say to people that we need to know numbers by early dec? it sounds really anal to set an actual deadline for RSVPs doesnt it?

I think it's fair enough, you need to know for catering! I don't think anyone will mind being asked to confirm- don't forget to let them all bring something- port/crackers/starter etc!
