How long do homemade sweets last?

Am planning to make some white chocolate and cranberry fudge for Christmas gifts. Ideally would like to make and bag it fairly soon. However, I have no idea how long this sort of food keeps. Fudge bought from the shop seems to last forever but homemade presumably doesn't last as long, or does it? Would freezing it destroy the flavour / texture? And do you ever put an 'eat by' date on your foodie gifts? The last thing I would want to do is make someone poorly over Christmas because they ate some dodgy fudge.

I started a thread similar to this last week. Was advised it lasts about a month so making it at the start of Dec will be fine. I did a test & froze some fudge a few weeks ago & I don't advise it...the texture was ruined. Someone also linked to I think it was nigella's chocolate fudge recipe which apparantly can be frozen. Would link to my thread for you, but I'm on my phone so can't....
