My family didn't, husbands family do. Last year was the first Christmas I wrapped stocking gifts for the children (have no idea why I did as extra time, cost and effort is really beyond me) but the kids loved it. I probably will wrap them again this year as a result.

Stocking gifts are always my favourites and because I can't think of anything exciting that my husband wants from me I am doing him a stocking this year and I am really gutted I won't get one (he is a great husband but really struggles with present ideas).

Yes, mostly. I usually buy a giant chocolate coin which stays unwrapped so it doesn't get broken during unwrapping, other than that all wrapped up (buys us a bit longer in bed in the morning).

Lunaticfringe, wish my husband wrapped something. Last years presents were given to me in a carrier bag. I wrap everything, including the ones for his family (his family always get our gifts from amazon and have them sent to us without wrapping so wrap those ones too). I am so done with wrapping by Christmas!

i wrap everything except the fruit, whilst losing the scissors and sellotape in between every present. Takes ages but loads of fun

yep, I've wrapped everything in the stocking except a pencil, fluffy pen, choc coins and satsuma which will be poking out the top. Gives us a bit more time in bed and dd absolutely loved it last yr.

I usually scrunch tissue paper round them and secure with a bit of tape. Saves time!

Tissue paper here too.

I wrap everything that goes in the stockings. I use already used paper from the previous year's tree presents so I don't feel guilty about using it.

Yes apart from the coin and satsuma and coal with traditional red and ribbons. They take longer to unwrap that way = more sleep.

I've also downloaded and printed out these traditional carols in sheet music form for DD's presents as she has a lot of vouchers and they look really nice. Just looking for some little jingle bells like these to thread through red twine.

I think I am compensating for when I had a full-time job and the DC were lucky if I had time to shop for presents at all Blush

I started wrapping the stocking presents a few years ago, because I realised that children love opening them. It's not just the present for them, it's the excitement of opening them and wondering what's inside! I use separate paper, and it takes a while, but it's worth it!

Some are wrapped, some not.

I definitely remove all packaging though - eg toy cars/ trains.

Yes, definitely wrap apart from chocolate coins and satsumas! More fun and takes longer for the kids to open.

I do-I think half the fun is in the unwrapping! And it gives us more time in bed!

Some but I do things like leave a candy cane sticking out the top as well as a small teddy or something.

I don't, my mum never did either.

I did one year but some of the stuff is very small so not only was it very fiddly to wrap but ended up more tape than paper so to recycle it meant having to remove all the tape and that's a major faff but then if you don't you get didn't-recycle-earth-killer guilt and who want's that on Christmas morning?

Generally we don't wrap stuff in the kids' stockings. We hang stockings on the mantelpiece and by the time we get to them the kids are getting a bit bored of the unwrapping. I will wrap the odd 'special' small present (e.g. something small but expensive or something delicate that I put in the stokcing so I know it won't get knocked over/trampled) if we get anything like that but I don't think we have this year.

I wrap dh's stocking stuff because otherwise he'd see it all when I fill his stocking on Christmas eve. It's part of the fun, him wondering what the little odd shaped presents are as I put them in his stocking.

Yes, I always do (probably because my mum did Grin). and I enjoy wrapping gifts.

DS has his stocking in bed first thing in the morning (used to bring it in to us but now too old !).

crafty - do your children have their stocking gifts after their 'main' presents then?

No I dont wrap the presents in the stockings. I've got enough to wrap with the presents from us and from Santa.

My mum never wrapped our stocking presents either. I still found it very exciting to delve into the stocking and see what I brought out!

steppemum · 16/11/2012 14:57

I wrap most things, not the chocolate father christmas that sticks out of the top.

I wrap because it is more exciting, you can't see what you've got all at once, and it takes ages to open them all, thereby spinning out the thrill

stockings on the end of their beds, opened when they wake up. In theory when they like in practice they have made it a rule that not before 7am (that is our usual not-allowed-to-disturb-the-house-before rule) and they have decided they can only be unwrapped on our bed
so the whole point of a stocking to keep them quiet is lost

pigsinmud · 16/11/2012 14:58

I had always assumed everybody wrapped stocking presents. Most of the fun is guessing what it is isn't it?
