Christmas

Do you do anything special on the 1st Dec (other than opening the first door on the advent calender) ?

I get out the box with Christmas books, puzzles and DVDs.

I also want to put Christmas duvets on the bed (if I can find any).

What do you do?

Well, we have a family birthday that day, so focus on that. If we didn't, I doubt we'd do anything particularly christmassy.

I've just had a week of birthdays Fanjo, so feel your pain.

Now that they're over with, I can start thinking about Christmas.

Ohtheconfusion - where did you buy your Christmas bedding?

Bangersmashandbeans - What are you putting in your hamper?

Advent calendar, Christmas pj's, Christmas colouring book, letter from Santa (nspcc), Christmas cup, Christmas card making set, ingredients for reindeer food! Nothing costing much, just a few bits that would usually go in the stocking but is nice to have for the whole of December. Not done it before but saw it suggested on MN and love the idea!

It's the advent weekend, so here (Switzerland) it's a big thing to light up the house, with fairy lights, the branch of 7 lights, etc and to light up the first advent candle on the Sunday of course.

You see some really beautiful hanging advent displays.

I've started a bit early this year, but we would bake some cookies to decorate and hang on the tree then.

Decorate the tree on the Sunday, whilst watching Mr Beans Christmas edition and Blackadders Christmas Carol.

H&M have some really nice Christmas feel duvets on their website.

I don't know if they are doing it in the UK, but IKEA have a special "Chalet" Collection here, which my husband was hoping I wouldn't notice!! Grin

We put the advent calendar up, which has a little activity for each day of advent, so we do the first one of those. Last year it was write to Santa. Day 2 was read a Christmas story.

The first of December is the official start of Christmas here.
Avery, Santa's elf, arrives from the North Pole bringing the advent calendar and a letter telling the DC that he is here to watch over them until Christmas Eve.

We write our letters to Santa and I put red duvet covers on the DC beds and make their room a bit Christmassy with fairy lights and various Christmas themed soft toys which are usually kept in the attic.

I have a mini Christmas party for myself after they are in bed, red wine, cheese board, stollen and watch love actually whilst writing out my Christmas cards.

I get down the nativity stuff only from the loft...books, dressing up, several nativity sets including wooden and playmobil one.

(we're christian so I like to over-do the Baby Jesus bit before it all gets Santa crazy!)

I know Minnie it is filling some sort of gap in my life I never knew I had. i know feel the need to go out and buy 3 Christmas duvets urgently.

Before long my house will resemble the one in National Lampoons Christmas vacation.

If only I could find those Reindeer head egg nog cups. (Don't even drink the stuff)

I don't - for me it's too early, and my birthday is on the 7th :o

I prefer doing it all in a shorter time (except the present shopping which I like to have done well in advance) to make it more intense.

But I love reading what everyone else does!

Open the Baileys, start thinking about putting a few decorations up (but not too many as I still have my MIL's birthday, my dh's birthday, my nephew's birthday and my dd's birthday to get through before Christmas...

Open my birthday presents Grin. Aside from that DH and I normally have a day off work to wander around the Christmas market and have lunch together. Not sure what to do on a Saturday. 'Twas great as a child, I always got first pick on who started the advent calendar (and set the cycle up so I got the last biggest one)

Do the Christmas duvets stay on for 25 days?
