I got a letter from them saying that those on pre-pay delivery would have priority and would get to book the slots in advance of the rest of us. I'm tempted now to go pre-pay. Thanks Mummy for a heads-up on the date - I'm going to register pre-pay today (hopefully I can do it online). Off to investigate...

Ooh thanks. We are on prepay already (would reccomend it to anyone regardless of the priority Xmas thing!) so will have a look. Do you have to put anything in your trolley above the £40 minimum, and then check out so it saves your slot? And presumably you can then edit it after?

Something bugging me though - what if there's snow and they can't deliver? Unfortunately due to idiots leaving their cars in the roads, we end up cut off from deliveries if there's snow. Angry I wouldn't want to rely on getting all the food if it then couldn't be delivered.

Hi Fuzzpig last year I put a nominal couple of items in my basket and checked out. This secured the slot for me. I then went back in at a later date and properly completed my shopping and re-checked out.

But that was before prepay delivery (which I have now enrolled for) and the min £40 spend, so I don't know if I can do the same this time. I imagine my first shopping attempt will cover the £40 threshold, then I'll go back in later, amend and re-checkout.

Re bad weather, get the larder stuff in early and leave the last shop for just all the fresh stuff. If Tesco's can't reach you, then I suppose you won't be able to get out either so you'll be in no worst position. And tesco will refund any non-delivered items + give compensation coupons (IME).

Do the tesco shop knowing that cancelling is always an option. If I thought the weather was closing in nearer the date, I'd do a local shop and then cancel my tesco order. I think you can cancel up to the day before the scheduled delivery (before the store people have completed the shopping).

but check on the cancelling thing - I have never used the cancel function before... Smile

That's true, thanks - we don't have a car so if it snows we wouldn't be able to go anyway - sometimes dad takes us but again he wouldn't be able to get here. We are due to go to a friend's for Xmas dinner on 24th anyway (again, weather depending), and were just going to do simple but naice food on the 24th when it's just us.

All the more reason to bug DH about planning the food insanely early so we can attempt to be organised :o

I order from Tesco once a week and pay £3.50 for delivery. I thought when I saw the info on their site about pre paying that it would cost me extra to do it. Is that right? I can't see it now. It came up when I checked out a shop last week but they didnt show it again this week.

If it will cost me extra to pre pay i will just get my Christmas food in from Sainsbury's instead

Oh - Just found it. It looks like it would save me 50p per week to get the 3 month plan.

I am on pre-pay. Have been doing it since it started. A delivery slot can be booked and one item placed in basket. It will tell you that you are below the minimum delivery amount of £40 and so will be charged but once you go back in and do your full shop it corrects itself.

I really want to know how much of a priority I will get for xmas slots as I will be furious if I miss out!!

myBoys I called them last week to ask when pre-pay customers would get access to the slots and the man on the phone told me that it wasn't set in stone as he hasn't been 'officially' told but that he thought it might be 19th November.........sounded like he was trying to tell me the correct date without actually TELLING me IYSWIM......?!!! I'm a bit annoyed that people who order a delivery from them week in week out throughout the year no longer get any sort of priority over people who don't. Getting priority was like a thank you at the end of the year for that custom. What will we get now?

Think I'm going to boycott Tesco over Christmas and go to Sainsburys!

If you order week in week out it works out cheaper to be on delivery saver anyway, so if you want priority access you might as well sign up.
I think 19th November is the date for priority release, or 20th, as you have to be signed up to delivery saver by 19th to qualify.

Has anyone who is signed up for delivery saver been able to get a slot yet? If so, how were you notified? I want to make sure I get a good slot this year...

Report
urbanturban · 19/11/2012 13:10

Bertram the website now says the following:

You are limited to one delivery between 20th ? 24th December. Additional deliveries during this period will be subject to a service charge. If you signed up to Delivery Saver on or before 19th November 2012 you will receive priority access to Christmas slots. Priority access will become available in the last week of November and we will email Delivery Saver customers to tell them as soon as slots can be booked.

HTH ! Smile

Tesco have lost my custom over Christmas because of this.

I can't afford to pay in advance so am penalised. Thanks Tesco.

Same here Spookysal. Never mind Sainsburys food is nicer anyway! Grin I normallu switch to them over Xmas anyway for treats, but this just means i will buy my basics there too!

I signed up for a tesco delivery saver purely to reserve a Christmas slot. I had umpteen different lots of information from Tesco's as to when the Christmas slots would be announced etc. i was also told I would definitely receive an email announcing the date as I was a priority customer. low & be hold I logged on this morning and slots are available for the 23rd of December which is close enough for me. Still no email has been received from Tesco announcing this so inspite of begrudgingly paying for this privilege it was worthless as slots are now open to all now.
Tesco's need to get organised and improve communication with staff and customers.

Slots aren't open to all yet because I can't book one. Rubbish that they didn't let you know but you do have priority still.

myBOYSareBONKERS · 27/11/2012 21:06

I logged on and booked my slot at 9.30am Monday morning. By 10am all Sunday slots had gone.

I didn't receive my email from Tesco telling me I could book until the evening when it would of been to late
