Anyone had their tree delivered?

DH is working overseas for a month until Xmas eve.

Rather than horsewhipping a large male friend into helping us, I'd like to have the tree delivered. I do like a generous sized tree me.

We're E London/Essex way - any ideas?

Try your local independent greengrocer. Mine sells all sorts, even trees!

He's a lovely chap and they do do them but he won't bring it to us. We've had all our trees from them before too and they've been crackers - not too much drop etc.

I can't put it in the car as there's a dog guard gated over the boot so it'd be to short a space. Nor can I strap it to the roof rack as we have a roof box on there and we've lost the key to get the bloody thing off. blush

So it'd be down to tiny me (or large friend) to carry it back from the shop. I'm happy to fork out for the delivery etc. Anything that makes life more easy while he's away!

We get ours from a local Scout group who deliver.

Have you looked online?

Just had a quick butchers - around 80 quid (including delivery) I reckon for our usual size tree. Local grocer chap does them for half that price. Delivery feels quiiite a luxury now I've actually found out how much it'll be!

Do you mean real trees? mine never last over 3 weeks if so?

If it is a real tree it will be much too early. I always choose one that is still growing and get it cut down in the second week of December.

Loads of independant garden centres deliver for free at the end of the day, but their trees are priced to factor that in, £85+ for an 8 foot tree.

There is a Christmas tree farm in Hawkwell, they do deliver, but again £££.

I think you've just been unlucky with your usual guy.

Even the guy who sells trees out of the Co-Op car park here will deliver at the end of the day. I know the stall holders in Portobello Road do the same, are you near any of the East London street markets?

Thanks all. Not to buy now, just thinking ahead!

DS2 collapsed while eating his dinner tonight so I'm just back from hospital where I saw a poster for an Xmas fair at our local National Trust place. They'll be selling trees and there was a number on the poster so when I'm a bit less stressed I'll pop up an take it.

They think it's a flu with a very sudden and aggressive onset. I've never seen anything like it! Home and tucked up in bed now. Man alive it was scary...
