Is an avid reader but loves to listen to her CD player too. Any thoughts?

We have a BBC adaptation of all three His Dark Materials books - DD (8) enjoyed those, to the point where we had to say we were NOT listening to the 11 hours again, argh. At the other end of the silly scale, Mr Gum - Andy Stanton reads them himself and he's HILARIOUS.

I second Mr Gum - absolutely hilarious for adults too! My DD also loves listening to Malory Towers, The Naughtiest Girl, Clarice Bean.

We really like the Terry Pratchet book Truckers read by Tony Robinson. It is an excellent story and nicely read.

Great minds think alike - look at Nation by Terry Prachett/Tony Robinson as well. Has got us through some pretty long car journeys and my 8yo didn't mind the rather poignant/faintly gory bits.

We bought DD2 the complete works of Roald Dahl (the kids' literature obviously, not the Tales of the Unexpected stuff) on 27 CDs. It came in a really smart zipped cover and has all the main books - BFG, Matilda, Charlie and Choc Fact, Danny Champ of World as well as some of the shorter ones. The readers are brilliant - Simon Callow and Miriam Margoyles for instance. I think we got it from the Book People, so it might not be on offer any more at the price we got.
