Help! I have no idea what 8 year old girls are into...

Bicnod · 04/11/2012 18:19

...and I have two of them to buy for.

Budget £10-£15.

I can't remember being 8. Also, they are far cooler than I was at 8 so it probably wouldn't help anyway.

All ideas gratefully received.

By the way, they are not my DDs just in case that wasn't clear from the OP.

Nice felt tips (Staedler do a really good set on Amazon) or pencils (again go for Staedler)

Sets of lip salves (seems to be a craze) from Claire's Accessories; anything else from Claire's accessories.

Money in a nice purse

Pop music

New scarf and gloves set

Anything personalised

My eight year old would love stationery, a book token, an iTunes voucher or anything drawing and colouring related - really nice pens and a colouring book would be most popular.

PJs of what ever craze they are into, moshi monsters, monster high (you can probably tell I haven't had an 8yo for 3 years). Onesies are all the rage at the moment.
Any art & craft set is always a good buy. Or one of those filled pencil cases www.amazon.co.uk/Double-Decker-Filled-Fabric-Pencil/dp/B005BDB668/ref=sr_1_40?ie=UTF8&qid=1352058341&sr=8-40&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 like this .

Should say that website ha great ideas but it's expensive, I'd check prices if you see anything you like. I like the way it's organised though!

Moshi monsters are an online game which has spawned a ridiculous variety of toys, books, stickers, you name it. My 8 year old dd loves them but she probably slightly prefers monster high.

My two 8 year old nieces are very into Monster High dolls. Sainsburys have them in their sale.

My (non girly) 8 year old is in to moshi monsters, pokemon, skylanders and Harry Potter Smile, she would be happy with books (i am gettingher Terry Pratchett books for christmas) or a onsie/all in one pj's.

My DN is now 10, but at 8 she liked pj's of things she was into (it was high school musical then), bags etc from Claire's accessories, Harry potter and music. Current favourites are One Direction and Little Mix. As well as cd's there's great present scope in the assorted tat - calendars, annuals, stationery etc.

Monster high, arts crafts, Brazil's, make up. I also can't stand moshi monsters and find them quite young?

Report
sunnyday123 · 05/11/2012 12:42

That should be bratzillas dolls

Report
DoubleMum · 05/11/2012 14:09

It really does depend on the girl TBH - my 7 yr old can't bear anything pink, princess or fairy related, Justin Beiber or One Direction, is resolutely uninterested in Lego Friends and thinks Moshi Monsters are babyish.
She likes Monster High, Bratzillas (or would if she had any!), Cool Cardz, Just Dance and We Sing for wii, smellies, onesies (but not pink!), Jacqueline Wilson books, roller blades. She likes to play Club Penguin but isn't interested in any toys for it. She also likes Brownies and would probably like Brownie-related presents or anything which might increase her chances of having a sleepover party.

same as DoubleMum, mine hates pink, princessy stuff. She wants Harry Potter, Star Wars and Monster High. She quite likes Moshi Monsters (but that's more her 6 year old bro's territory)

Dd would like a giftcard for the cinema, Claire's accessories, Waterstones or WH Smiths as she likes to shop and choose her own things and loves the cinema. She'd love a magazine subscription like this or this as well.

Yes was going to come on and say what others have mentioned - if possible, check out what sort of girls they are first. Dd1 is 7 but hates anything girly, pink, she would hate anything for hair or accessories of any kind. If in doubt, book token would work.

Thank you so much everyone - I really appreciate all the ideas.
