kids' gifts for £5 or under

We are quite tight for money this year and so are keeping our budget for nieces and nephews to £5 or under. I've had a quick look around online but am struggling to find something that isn't tat.

Has anyone got any suggestions? I am open to a bit of crafting if necessary. However, I would prefer to keep this to a minimum this year as am due with dc2 in Dec.

I should've said we have 4 nephews aged 4mo, 2, 4 and 8. Our only niece is 6.

I have actually already cheated with 4mo nephew and put an M&S hat in my virtual basket. It costs £7 but it's just so darn cute . I can't cheat for all of them though or we will end up way over budget!

The book people are usually fab for cheap sets, you could split them up and give them a book or two and a selection box each.

I've managed to do my dnieces 4 and 6 for under 5 each!

I found a craft kit in tescos reduced to 50p each build your own aquarium, some totes princess socks in the pound shop and a sticker activity book for 2.99 from the works

I'm determined to cut down my Xmas shopping this year!!

Waitrose had this science museum putty for a fiver when I was doing my online shopping the other day. I bought harmonicas in stylish retro packaging from Waitrose last year for a couple of kids, they were five pounds then.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses. It seems there are so many offers out there that I had no idea about! I hadn't even heard of the book people or the entertainer. There are some things reduced from £20 to £5 on that site! The only problem then is, what if it looks like I've spent £20 on one and a fiver on the other?!

I might put together a budget craft kit for my niece. She loves that sort of thing and it'll be easily picked up in tesco when I'm there anyway doing my food shopping.

Delivery charges really seem to be the killer when shopping online to a budget. However, I don't have the time or energy just now to trail through the shops.

I have a question about the book people. Is it really legitimate? I have just come across 10 Anita Jeram books for £9.99. RRP is £55!

Lush bath bombs are fabulous. They cost around £2.50-£3.50 and are a one off bath extravaganza!

I have just bought a few dragon's eggs for mine for a Christmas Eve treat. You could buy one of those and a packet of sweets, would go down a storm with my kids anyway.

Book People are the bees knees, and deffo legitimate. There are a few free delivery codes kicking around too - look on the Great Christmas Bargains thread

Book people is totally legit. They buy in bulk and only stock certain books for a certain timeframe which is how they do it so cheaply. Have bought loads from there and RedHouse over the years.

Yep the book people is a well known site, lots of us including me shop there.

The p and p is usually £4.99 but if you go to the Xmas bargains thread and ask there have been a few codes floating about there recently for free p and p.

i am going to be really and truly cutting Christmas down to the bare bones this year. Buy wool (or acrylic yarn) in their favourite colours, learn to crochet or knit and make them a little/medium or big woolly hug!
