Hie thee to Hawkins Bazaar with particular regard to jokes and magic tricks. You could buy that joke box they're promoting and wrap up the bits separately?

Pack of playing cards

Book of card game rules

Bag of marbles

Do 8 year olds wear Lynx? my 8 year old dd would be mortified if i boughtt her body spray and shower gel for christmas Grin

My 8 year old dd (tom boy) wants a Wii and skylanders or a kindle, a pokemon ds game, a harry potter book and a harry potter DVD. I havn't bough her any of it yet as she will probably change her mind. The oly things i have bought her is a Harry potter dvd game, and a paper jamz guitar.

Ds1 has started taking more interest in his appearance and occasionally has a quid spray of his Dads Lynx...so he'll be made up with it!!...oh and he's also asked for his ear pierced and a diamond stud......NOT HAPPENING!

I'm not looking forward to the day they asked for ears pierced (their dad will have to take them as i know there would be tears).

I look forward to dd showing interest in her appearance, at the moment she's not bothered at all, though she does like lip balm in the winter.

Maybe you could get him a chain rather than a ear ring/stud?

my Auntie very kindly bought him a gold chain last year Shock...he put it on in the summer with a vest and looked like an extra from Big Fat Gypsy Weddings Grin

I've always found it harder to find stocking fillers for my DS than for my DD.

Whoopee cushion went down well one year, also, surprisingly, a good old-fashioned yo-yo. Other things I've put in DS's when he was younger: comic; poster; football socks; puzzle books; DVD; money box; hat; top trumps ...

Dvd, those card games (top trumps etc), science putty, Playdoh Supertools, action figures, mini lego kits, magic flannels, art stuff/facepaints, sweet dispenser toys,

Thanks you all for ideas - couldn't get on computer for days hence slow reply.

Magic tricks - perfect. Will check out.
Sliper socks/ gloves - always put in stocking but this year have such big holes I'll have to buy before xmas
Lynx- DS likes showers but will look for soap on roap or shower gel. Any ideas?
Diary of a whimpy kid- just pre-ordered the new one.

Ooh just spotted card games. Mine love them but think we have all. Any card game suggestions? We have uno, card monopoly and every top trump going?

Depends how much you want to spend and how much they like figuring out more complex games.

e.g. Coloretto

DS still loves soft toys:-) Put a meerkat in last year which he loved as they are still classed as cool at 8. Has been a tradition in our house that they put stocking on door and wake up to find a soft toy peeking out but not sure if the end has come. Cant think of a toy to peek out this year (DS 8 and DD5)

Might I suggest my book, "So You Want To Be Captain?".
More a compilation than a literary work, but aimed at getting kids to read and be active. About £7 on Amazon
