Tablet, netbook or laptop?

Both DDs want laptops for Christmas, I have a budget of about £250 each (they know they are having nothing else but stockings).

What would be best to get them? They play games, will eventually go on FB, Skype, YouTube, the usual teen stuff but I want them to be able to do homework, coursework (in the future) and online educational stuff too.

They are 10 and 11.

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm not tech savvy enough to spot the best deals.

:)

I'd go for netbooks I think. I've just got my DD a tablet for her birthday (8) and it won't easily do some of that - homework etc - at least as easily as a netbook or laptop would. In my mind they are too young for a full laptop (only my personal reasoning on it as that is a v expensive gift for my budget.)

Argos has some nice ones in different colours for £199 so there'd be change for a case or some other little bits and pieces and they'd still be really pleased (hopefully).

HP Mini 200- 4200sa Netbook for £226.23.

If you can stretch your budget however, I'd buy instead HP 655 Dual Core Laptop for £279.99.

Blackberry Playbooks for under £120 on Currys.

I love mine.

If they're going to do homework on it I'd go for a laptop. Will they need to read/burn DVD's? Netbooks tend not to have a DVD drive.

Is it possible to share the budget and get a decent laptop? I've just bought the playbook for xmas, looks absolutely fab (had to check it worked!), but too awkward for homework. But BRILLIANT as a media player, and a great price, so could maybe get a £3-400 laptop, and a £129 playbook between them?

Do you have any clubcard vouchers? Last year my Mum bought a laptop with double vouchers in the clubcard exchange. Might be worth looking at.

I'd go for a laptop.

I have a netbook and it is really difficult to type on it, you can't back your work up on a CD.

I think it will have to be laptops, so they last them a few years (until the end of GCSEs).

I used all my clubcard vouchers for days out in the summer, which is a shame, that would have been great. DH gets 15% off at Comet through work I think, so it's a case of looking out for good deals now.

Go during the week when they're quieter if you can. They'll be more desperate for sales and you might be able to haggle a good price if you're buying 2.

If you buy online have a look for Quidco deals
