I have a tonne of nieces, nephews and godchildren to get a little something for, for around a fiver. Boys and girls, aged 13 to 2.

Why bother? Just give them the money, in a nice card to buy whatever they want.
You can make your own card if you don't want to spend extra on it.

Handmade bracelets for the girls. I did this last year very cheaply by ordering beads and wire from ebay. Make use of the 3 for 2 offers and BOGOFs for the boys?

I always think books are a good gift. HMV have some funny/fact/novelty books on for around £2-£3, free delivery. And the book people always do great childrens books offers. I have bought a pack of 10 Julia Donaldson books (the gruffalo etc) for £9.99.

Have a look in places like home bargains and poundland they often have some interesting books in.

I try to keep small inexpensive presents usable so that they don't hang around making clutter, so things like craft/colouring stuff, food, toiletries and such.

Other fail safes includes charachter pyjamas and t shirts.

Would any of them be interested in cooking? You could make up some of these and buy a cheap baking set from the poundshop/supermarket. That would come in around the £5 mark - the jars are about £1 (asda,wilkinsons,ikea) and a cheap baking set would be a couple of pounds tops and then just the ingredients.

Lakeland have a load of "less than a fiver" bits and bobs that aren't absolute tat such as this or this . If you follow the recommendation links on the site too, it will show many more, hope that helps

The Works are great for presents like that. Got my DN a beautiful hardback copy of The Complete Compendium of Dragonology for less than a fiver from there.

I hate giving vouchers. It seems such a cop out and I think children like to open presents at christmas.
It'sm easy to find books or toys for under a fiver for the younger children and get some cheap bubblebath or similar for the older ones. There's usually a 2 for 3 offer

DVDs, temporary tattoos; books (packs from Book People/Red House can be v reasonable); Usborne Books do fab colouring/sticker/activity books for under £5 each; Usborne Spotters Guides if the children are outdoorsy; Melissa & Doug drawing paper - they have some great ones; scarf/winter hat/gloves/toiletries etc.

Have a look on crafty people's fb pages/websites. There are WAHM near me who make little bags with initials/names on for school/nursery, aprons with names on or personalised pottery bits for around £5.

M&S usually have some brilliant £5 and under presents normally. Boys love that hydrophobic sand (pour water on it and it runs away from the water and won't get wet. It comes in dayglo colours) or the little meccano toy racing cars.

Don't think their website is showing all the Christmas presents yet but worth checking. Should be any day now.
