Christmas

does the tree NEED to be away from radiator?

Just what it says, really. We are going to buy our first real family christmas tree today (yay!) and the obvious place to put it is in the window, but that's by the radiator. Does it matter?
Other tree tips also welcome, of course.
Thank you.

Yes it matters. The heat will dry it out and all the needles will be gone in 2 days.... Even away from the heat it needs lots of water to keep it looking and smelling good.

Or keep the radiator off?! ( I would as I hate being too hot!).

Ideally keep a real tree away from rad otherwise it will just dry out, droop and lose all it's pines. Can you put it anywhere else? Or turn off that rad? Good luck, bet it looks gorgeous when it's up. Grin

I have put a real tree infront of the radiator, but watered it constantly often. It won't last as long as it would elsewhere but should see you through a couple of weeks. If you get a real tree in a pot it will fare better than just a cut stump in a holder.

If you can turn the radiator off as suggested, if not turn it down have your heating on constantly.

I miss a real tree.

The chocolates on it will melt...fact.

Unless,

you

like me

open the packet and eat them before putting them on the tree....

shame.

oflip - good idea, I'm with you!
Have turned off radiator and tree looking splendidly garish by the window. Thanks all.

We always have our tree a quite close to a radiator and it hasn't caused a problem so far. We have it in one of those holders that you can put water in.

Our tree resides near the radiator and we've always had needles on until the 12th day after Christmas. But I do water it every day. And I am going to turn the heating down now after reading this...
